sounds like a bad sending unit in the gas tank. iirc, the whole tank has to be replaced

    Hello and welcome to PriusChat!

I have seen this problem on three different Gen2 Prius, and all three had faulty fuel level sensors (fuel gauge sending units) in the fuel tank. The tank on the Gen2 in North America is "sealed" (has no way to replace parts inside), so the only repair option was to replace the complete tank assembly.

That might be your problem, but you would have to have some electrical testing done to confirm that. I do not know if you can do such testing yourself, or if you take your car to a shop.

On a Gen2 that was made for the US market, you have to replace the entire tank.

Just reset your trip A with every tank and divide it by your MPG reading. That's your approximate miles driven. That's what I've been doing and its been fine. I get 52 MPG on my 2008 so for example, at 400 miles on Trip A I know that I need to put around 8 gallons. This has bee working fine for me. I hope this helps,

    Karsa, Thank you .
But how I do reset trip A. Every time the trip A &B reset by itself every trip or drive I doesn’t calculate the trips together.
