CBS Late Night News reported that TOYOTA will be giving $2,000 discounts for the PRIUS packages ( assume not for the base model ) , due to the lowering of the tax credit . They also claimed TOYOTA had sold 28,000 of them in March w/ HONDA second in sales of their Hybrids . Therefore I would go with the instant $2,000 discount , being more of a sure thing over the iffy $1,575 tax credit we got , now 1/2 of that . Plus , you should be able to get at least an additional $1,500 ( give or take few hundred $ ) off the sticker before the $2,000 package discount if you do some serious dickering . Besides that you still get the tax credit which is around $750 which fluctuates on income , etc.. GO GOT 'EM before the shelves are bare !!! :D

<div align="left">I went to buyatoyota.com to find out what the scoop was. The deal seems to vary with the package you get. For example on the base model you'd get the following discount:

    Package 2 and 3: $600
    Package 4: $800
    Package 5: $2,000
    Package 6: $2,000

Since the vast majority of Prius's on the lot have packages 2 and 4 the savings are a lot less than $2,000 for most buyers. On top of that low rate financing is not available. For me as a March buyer, the 2.9% for 60 months promotional financing along with the higher tax credit more than offest the package savings Toyota is now offering.

Every Prius has been reduced in pricing now to spur sales (looks like it worked last month) in light of the tax credit getting slashed. Now is a great time to get a great deal.

Never min - I didn't notice that this string was from 2007..."I negotiated 24,000 (plus tax & lic.) for a 2008, Red, Package #4, but I have not gone in to pick it up yet or signed anything. Should I ask for another 800 off the price?"

so now I'm confussed.....is there a IRS rebate for buying a new Prius in 2007????

also if you haven't checked out the "new owner in service" at your local dealer {Rudy Luther in Golden Valley, MN does it the 1st Wed of every month} ...GO!! besides the great free food, service coupons, etc. you get to talk the the top technician and see the Prius on the lift!!!!
