I spoke to a local tint shop who quoted me $550 to do the entire car (minus the winshield). I think that sounds a little high -- what have other people paid for Huper Optik?

    Thanks!

If anyone would be willing to share info about where in the SF Bay Area you can get a good price for window tinting, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

The guy I spoke to is in Freemont and only carries top of the line products (huber optik, v-kool, suntek). His prices seem a bit high, but I think he is one of the best in the area (in business for 15+ years, owns 2 shops). He also said that he has done a bunch of priuses, as he works closely with the local toyota dealership.

    Here is his site:

I may go for the cheaper suntek, which he said is about $320 for all windows -- $200 cheaper than huber optik.

I got the Formula One ceramic tint on everything but the windshield for $399 in Austin.

$245 for Formula One Pinnacle 35, the darkest they could install. All but the windshield, and I still can't tell about the lower rear but I guess they skipped it.

    UV Protection 99.5%

    Heat Rejection 52%

    Glare Reduction 60%

Huper's website lists 30 and 40, so I'll use the specs for 40 since that would likely be the lowest I would have been allowed to have without possible hassles:

    Visible Light Transmission 42%

    Solar Energy Rejected 55%

    Infrared Light Rejection 80%

    UV Light Reflection 99.9%

I'm not seeing hundreds of dollars worth of spec differences, but maybe somebody else can?...

Now that I'm home (hit the road for a week just after the tinting), I hear from folks at the office that the windshield can't be tinted in SC, so I guess I'm as done as I'll get. Too bad, since the Heatshield is a pain to deploy with the parking tag in the way.

So, is the Huper ceramic that much better than the Formula One ceramic to justify people springing for Huper? I'm just trying to point out an alternative that was a lot cheaper for me...

I paid $399 for the following Hüper Optik tint job:

Ceramic 40 throughout car except rear lower pane & windshield
Ceramic 50 on windshield (100% coverage) with cut out for inspection sticker
