Hi. I just bought a used 2014 Prius v, 175,300 miles. The previous owner had the head gasket re-machined last October. The car runs great, and my mechanic said it was in great shape after his vehicle inspection.

However, I'd like to get preventive maintenance done to protect the head gasket. The previous owner said none of the following were ever done! So, I'm going to have my mechanic do the following, because that's what many in the chat said is best to do, especially with my high mileage. Any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated,

Clean the MAF sensor, throttle body, oil scraper rings, intake manifold, EGR valve, pipe and gasket.
Replace intake gaskets, thermostat, and water pump.

I'm searching prices now, but when I went to Toyota's website they had TWO listings for a water pump. Which one do those in chat recommend when they suggest to replace the water pump to avoid head gasket issues down the road?

The inverter pump assembly or engine water pump assembly?

    Thanks for any help.

I feel like the water pump is in the category "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" When you get around 15-years old (or older) and are doing work in and around there, sure, you can swap it out with a new one from Toyota but only then.

The car is only 11-years old which, for a Toyota, isn't all that old. (If you go in the Toyota forum, you'll see a ton of 20+ year old Toyotas.)

So save up that money....I've found most Toyota's need suspension work right around the 15-year point....upper/lower sway bars, bushings, axle seals, struts/shocks. Also some need new engine mounts depending on their mileage. (And exhaust stuff if you live in rusty-land.)
