'predictive deceleration' anyone?

Still waiting on mine to show up, but I'm very interested to see this as well. Perhaps you need to make a couple of trips to the hardware store and see what pops up on the second or third trip. They don't say there is a minimum distance, just that the route needs to already be in the traveled "daily" database. It might have to span more than one 24 hr period to count.

I found a differently worded note about this here.

"The Prius Prime can even optimize range by memorizing the driver’s stopping patterns on frequently driven routes and suggesting when to let off the accelerator. Available Predictive Efficient Drive with Predictive Deceleration Support collects daily driving data to predict points of deceleration and stopping. From then on, when the driver goes through a location in the database, the system indicates when to let off the accelerator and can apply assisted deceleration to help boost fuel efficiency."

 

Seen the icon change? I think so, but I'm not certain. I think it gets larger.

I've certainly seen the behavior and the Hybrid System Indicator change. I'm less certain about the icon.

 

I think that's the little leaf that shows up on the navigation screen. If you turn the option on, little green leaves pop up around areas you usually slow down at.
Like I stop at a stop sign before going up a steep hill. There's a leaf at the bottom of the hill. I have never noticed the car acting different though.

 

The deceleration becomes obvious after awhile. I noticed the pronounced regen in my neighborhood at the routine stops. With the roundabouts, I usually don't even need to touch the brake pedal anymore.

 

This is a great feature! I really like it. Also, notice the green dot and its proximity to the intersection. Sometimes it is a challenge to get a green dot. There must be some sort of breaking language that generates these points.

 

I can actually see the increase on the screen. The bar dips as if I had started to brake, even though my foot isn't touching either pedal.

 

When you approach a known intersection and you are already off the accelerator pedal, the regeneration approximately doubles and the location where it does this seems to be speed dependent (faster is earlier).

It annoyed me at first but I've grown to like it.

 

It doesn't do anything unless you're completely off the accelerator pedal.

If you get off the pedal at an unknown intersection you get x-amount of regeneration.
If you get off the pedal at a known intersection, you get something like 2x-amount of regeneration, starting at a distance from the intersection that seems to me to be speed-dependent (faster = starts farther away).
