I've included these for searching purposes. I was not able to format them or obtain the data in way that I could re-include them into the forums, but I did want to include them here in the Library so that they will be searchable.

If you have found this thread through a site search, scroll down until you find the highlighted word(s) that you are looking for. Or, hit Cntrl-F and then type in the keyword you are looking for.

    Thanks,

( 'Lexus LS 430 XM in a 2004 Prius?', 'Everything about the 2004 Lexus LS 430 reminds me of the 2004 Prius. It has bluetooth, voice command, smart start and entry. It even has a backup camera like the Japanese 2004 Prius. If you look at the radios on both they have the same buttons - just slightly rearranged.

I took apart the dash on my 2004 Prius and on the back of the radio, which is made by Matsushita, is a connector that isn\'t used for anything.

What I\'m hoping, and betting, is that the electronics in both of these cars is identical and that the XM satellite option for the Lexus LS 430 will work with the 2004 Prius. I called some Lexus dealers and they\'ve told me that there isn\'t a single XM install kit available in the USA yet, so I can\'t even look at the connectors.

If someone on the Lexus side could send me a picture of the connector for the XM, or if someone on the Toyota side could tell me what this extra connector is for, I would be able to sleep better at night.

    If anyone is interested, I can post the pictures of the disassembled dash and the back of the radio. Although, maybe I should keep these pics to myself to avoid voiding my warranty.');

    ( 'Startup', 'Hi out there!

To start up, we bought our Prius from a dealer here in Berlin,Germany in Mid-August this year. It is a demo car, from 10/02 with 8000 km on the clock in royalblue mica (without nav).
We bought it there (www.stolzenburg.com), because they werde the only ones who were clearly willing to sell us a car. Most other dealers did not show much interest. We sended an e-amil, they called back the same day, took a test drive 2 days later and bought the car right of. They told us much about they car, and reading all about the Prius on the Internet, they were well informed.
Up to now we can tell that it is the best car we ever bought. 4.7 l/100km, silent driving, no flaws (insert knock on wood here). It is my wifes car, and she does not give it out of her hands. First thing in the morning is the question of the kids \"Which car are we using today?\" and if the answer is Prius then \"YPIEEE\". If it is \"Micra\" (our 7 year old Nissan, my car) then you here \"ehm, well, er... okay...it has a cd-player\".
We now have 12500km. The car changed my driving style completly (actually when im allowed to drive it), and im driving the Micra the same way and all of the sudden i cut off 0.5l of my average fuel consumption (and i still need 25 min to get to work).
If the new Prius emerges here in Germany, i sure will test drive it.

    On another topic:
This is so much better than the yahoo group. I frickin hate how yahoo splits long urls. Here you can have links!

The only disadvantage of this site relative to yahoo that I can think of is for people that prefer to have an email digests rather than read via a browser. Is there a way to get forums emailed to you in digest form or is there a php-nuke plugin that offerers that functionality?

    ( '', 'Ohthetrees -

( 'do we need another prius site?', 'moving the discussion from the yahoo group to here. Lets see how this goes. Reply follows:

Fragmentation is bad. But so are groaning, creaking infrastructures, that simply do not meet the needs of the group. The pics section is broken, there are very restrictive limits to how many things we can keep in the files or pictures section, it is impossible to post a url without it being split in two. If we managed to move en-mass to priuschat I think our experience would be improved.

Also, your tally of how many sites there are to watch is a little disingenuous. First, most are yahoo groups, which are the very things I think we need to get beyond. And the next group includes many boards not prius focused. In addition, many of the groups you list are narrowly focused or regional, and focus on topics not really apropriate for toyota-prius or 2004-prius groups.

That is far from a gallery of pictures. Just a bunch of pics inline in a post is not quite the same as a real gallery that has thumbnails, intermediate sizes, and full size pics on demand, and many other great features. Wading through forums to find pics sucks. Also, there may be things other than \"owner photos\" that deserve pics. I can imagine step-by step how-tos for modifications, etc that work best as a gallery of pics with captions explaining each picture.

( '', 'Let me be one of the first to reply to this topic...

I created this site because of the many problems I see inherent with a Yahoo Group site - it\'s made for small groups of people, the discussion forums are not designed for heavy traffic or multi-subject postings, and there is a total lack of organization to it when you have 3,000 members without any true full-time moderators or administrators.

The buzz that the new 2004 Prius is creating is amazing. It\'s the first hybrid vehicle that truly appeals to the masses, and now I think it\'s time for a centralized, stand alone site designed to keep everything organized and open to everyone.

I didn\'t know about priusonline.com before someone mentioned it in reply to my little advertisement about PriusChat. After looking at it I don\'t think that it is organized in a fashion that is conducive for a 3,000+ member board.

I\'ll be the first to admit that I\'m new at this. This is a labor of love, and I hope that together we can all make this website the best and main Prius Enthusiast site out there. I will take any and all suggestions that you can provide, and at first there will be a lot of kinks in the system.

    If we decide we don\'t need this site, then that\'s fine, I can shut it down. This is my way of trying to give back to the Prius community and dissenimate as much information about the Prius as possible, because as soon as these cars are on the road more and there are some that sit at the car lot for more than 6 hours, people are going to notice and have questions.');

As a result, the MPG shows very low even while coasting down the street.

By the time I get to the end of my street (about 100 yards long), and stop at the corner, everything seems to be working right again.

Having all your groups in one place is a feature that I\'m sure appeals to heavy yahoo-groups users. For me, and I imagine for many people, I\'m interested in the prius site being as good and functional as it can be, not being tied to a sucky service because of momentum. That came off as a little harsh. What I\'m saying is, why tie yourself to a solution that is not the best for you, just because you are up to your elbows in it now?

The search feature at priuschat.com is far superior.

This, I suspect, will be the real barrier for most people.

The ads are far from my main objection to yahoo. My main problems are:

    crappy low-res photo restrictions
    photo feature broken
    file storage very limited
    poor search funtionality
    frequently breaks urls in posts
    not catagorized

That is a worthwhile objection. However, I bet more people would be gald to manage some of the volume, rather than be happy about wading through it all.

If you are signed in there is a little \"new\" icon next to threads that you have not read yet. In addition you can do things like \"mark all threads as read\". Then the next time you come you will see which threads have been updated.

I would like to see everyone move over. But I suspect that the weight of the group will settle wherever the gurus and heavy hitters settle. (speaking of which, there was a Dianne sighting at priuschat.org!) I think having both at once would be a little too fragmented.

    Thanks for the opinions! :)

php errors? Haven\'t seen any yet, and I hope I don\'t.

The hope (from me at least) is not that you (and others) would have to monitor two boards, but rather that we would all migrat en-masse away from yahoo.

Yes, it is simply a better message board than yahoo offers. I think that is clear. The weakness of the priuschat idea lies in other areas. Since I laid out the strengths of priuschat, I might as well list some of my reservations. Unlike yahoo\'s weaknesses, which tend to fall into the \"how it works\" catagory, my reservations about priuschat are more organizational.

    1) What if Danny the priuschat admin/founder gets tired of the trouble and expense of hosting the site?

2)Do we trust him? I do, but yahoo is a big name, and some people might not want to give their email address and so on to this unknown guy

    3) Despite the screwups with the yahoo pics area, we have some confidence that the technical aspects of hosting a site are being handled. Backups, persistance, uptime, etc are all important. We don\'t know if Danny has the skills or inclination to keep the sight really going on the long haul. I regard many of the searchable backposts on the yahoo lists to be a great resource which I hope will persist for years. Do we have the same expectation for the priuschat site?
