This was last winter. I stopped at the Harley Davidson dealer on 322 in PA near State College. Not so much in the snow, but it was a wintry mix that day

From the double the annual snowfall, record setting winter in the
    Ballamer-Warshtin area last year:

That really is a Prius under there:

Shoveling Amapola out was a fruitless effort.
We didn't see a snowplow in our area inside the Ballamer city limits for
    10 days.

Mine does not do well on ice. Does well on snow if I am careful. I run summer tires so bad traction and an overzealous traction control system (2005) = ice issues.

I think it does about as well as any other smallish red FWD car in
    the snow.

My rule for whether or not to head out for work is simple:
    If it's snowin', I ain't goin'. :p
So, I may not be the best person to ask.

The 2008-9 have the least "touchy" traction control of the Gen IIs.
It will let you spin the wheels a little bit at least.

Biggest problem I've enountered is the limited clearance underneath,
4-5 inches? The relatively smooth bottom lets you slide right up on the
snow and the front wheels are up in the air. If you are careless or
unlucky enough to get a bunch of snow jammed under the car, you're
stuck, and it's real hard to dig packed snow from under the center of
    the car.

This year I've got a 4-wheel set of Blizzaks on rims ready to mount
should we get more that 2 or 3 inches. I hear they go really well on
snow and even ice if you're careful and keep a little speed on...

    We'll see.

I gotta ask, if the beloved Prius is outside buried in all that snow - what's in the garage? :p

    Don,

House and garage were built in 1938.
It is the smallest one-car garage I've ever seen.
There are no grease stains on the floor.
I'm not so sure a car has ever been parked inside.

We'd have to fold the side mirrors to get the Prius in.
    OK, that's do-able.
But, how do you get out of the car once its inside?

It appears to be an architectural evolutionary dead-end...
    the no-car garage.

The old dukes of hazzard way? Climb in and out through the windows.

I haven't parked in my garage in the 4+ years I've been in my house. Harley and other junk are in there instead. Debating getting a detached garage on the side of the house, but I think I'd miss the open-ness of the way it is now.

My Prius' first snow was in California, Oct 4, 2009, near Lake Tahoe:

I had to leave Herb at the end of our driveway. I managed to get this far before the snow got so deep that I couldn't move. Got it dug out, turned around and parked on the "street" the next day, but it was a good two weeks before I could drive up the driveway to the house. Hiking 1000 feet through knee-deep snow was no fun.
