PORSCHE’S TESLA-FIGHTING ELECTRIC SPORTS CAR GETS ITS OWN SUPERCHARGER NETWORK

Porsche’s Electric Mission E Gets Its Own Superchargers | WIRED

    Highlights:

The rule holds for the automaker's upcoming Mission E, the all-electric sedan aiming to replace the Tesla Model S in the driveways of the rich and environmentally conscious, starting in 2019 or 2020. The four-door five-seater will bolt from zero to 60 in 3.5 seconds, and go 310 miles on a charge.

To keep the confidence flowing, Porsche will give Mission E drivers an extra perk: the ability to add 250 miles of range to their battery in 20 minutes, at a new network of charging stations.

    "It’s different because it’s a Porsche."

“One of our priorities will be to equip our 189 dealerships with 800-volt DC fast-chargers,” To go along with those fast charging spots, Porsche designed the Mission E with 800-volt architecture so it could handle the level of power from those new charging spots—and maybe more down the line. Its 95-kWh battery pack is tucked under the floor, which gives the car a low center of gravity and a sporty drive. It all sounds very similar to Tesla’s Model S.

It will fail because the dealers will lock them up outside of business hours . . . just like every USA dealer does today.

But just having them out there is another proof that grid electric is the better option over hydrogen.

But if dealers are so few (189), what great effect does this have? (I sold my third Porsche because the dealers were 50 miles away. I bought from a dealer who is 4 miles away. Buying now I rule out brands who don't have convenient dealers.)

That sound reasonable except my local Toyota dealer is crap and so are all the other local dealers.
That is why I drove 150 miles to a good dealer to buy my Prius from a Gen 1 Prius owner salesman.

    yea, sure they will ....
Wake me if or when the 1st handfull ever get built. Porsche is part of the same organizational structure that brought us dieselgate. So if their lips are moving - who knows if it's true. Bring it on - & THEN boast. Otherwise? Put up or shut up VW/porsche/audi

if their only goal is to convert porsche drivers to ev, the battle is probably already lost.

Well porsche tried to buy vw, and vw ate porsche, let's not tarnish the good people over at porsche working on plug-ins with the vw group diesel cheaters.

The first handfull in the US - 6 - have been built in atlanta. These complement the ones in europe, but for now, my guess they are mainly for testing the new test mules. These are 800V chargers built on top of CCS and the standard they are talking about goes to 1000V. I'm sure if it takes off, tesla could pay to have there plugs as part of the network or could provide an adapter.

let's see, 189 chargers at porsche dealers divided by 50 states = quite a commitment.

Or looked at another way, there are well over 3,000 counties throughout the United States. Divide those dealerships among the County's & that would be one dealership for well over every 30 counties. Yeah, it better have a REALLY REALLY long range.

I’m not quite so dismissive. You have to start somewhere. And Porsche have used electric motors for low end torque for a few years now. They are also watching Tesla chew up market share in the luxury market.

Porsche et al are really making progress. They've gone from ignoring EV, to dismissing it, to trying to catch up with it. They should be encouraged.
