The numbers are in for just about all the plug-ins and we had strong growth in 2012 Monthly Plug-In Sales Scorecard December 2011 Dashboard: Sales Still Climbing - HybridCars.com Plug-ins increased from 17813 in 2011 to around 54,000 in 2012.
sorry the table didn't come over the way it should. That big number is % increase from the handfull they shipped in 2010 for the press release. leaf sales were 9819, 9674 in 2012, 2011 respectively.
The PiP numbers looks to be quite low, if I consider the popularity of Prii. Any ideas for the reason? Bad pricing, low EV miles?

Technically, there were 21 delivered the end of February (including mine). But that's so few, it's appropriate to say March was the start.

Although MSRP is high, it appears that dealers are discounting and many PC members got good deals, so I would not put any blame on pricing. I know john will disagree with me vehemently here in spite of the numbers, but it is an initial adopters car, and initial adopters of phevs seem to want more range and more of an electric driving experience. I'm sure Toyota is taking the feedback and will improve on the gen IV platform. The other thing that both the volt and leaf ran into is dealers that just don't want to sell plug-ins. Tesla assumes this would be such a problem that they are opening factory stores instead of traditional dealerships. The numbers are also limited somewhat because toyota does not sell the prius phv in many high volume plug-in states - Florida (2), Texas(4), Ohio (5). They should do this by the end of the year, but I have not heard anything more about when. Given the lack of the roll out to some of these states, I would assume a big reason volume is where it is is because this is where toyota wants it. Its high enough to do market research. I expect a big push in 2015 with a redesigned model.
