Does plug-in has 3-batteires? Standard 12V Lithium-ion pack 4.4kWh (rechargeable from a power outlet) And another battery like a standard Prius when 4.4kWh pack is depleted it uses standard ICE + standard Prius battery (non rechargeable from power outlet).
No. It's a single battery with 2 sub-packs, but both can be used. In the pre-production model it had the standard NiMH plus 2 lithium sub-packs which it could use alternately until a sub-pack was exhausted.
I'm not sure about the 2 (or 3) sub-packs anymore on the production PiP. The pre-production PHV had 3 packs, but all 3 were li-ion, AFAIK. See https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal/staticcontent/en/techinfo/html/prelogin/docs/priusphv.pdf from https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal/appmanager/t3/ti;TISESSIONID=FLhjPyWYGvF7vNBDph7JPvLsLp5JG4zTLZy3t6hHDv1plnGTgmVG!1488617632?_pageLabel=ti_erg&_nfpb=true (the 2nd URL might not work, so go to techinfo.toyota.com/public/main/erg.html and then Emergency Reponse at the bottom).
Go to this thread. This has already been hashed and re-hashed. The Prius PHV has a single battery with 4 modules in series.
Thanks folks. I was reading somewhere that it had 3-batteries but it must have been per-production version.
