Play DVD on OEM NAV system

    Does anyone got the DVD to work on oem NAV system? There is a post with a video of Prius V playing DVD when they put on emergency brake. My player can't read DVD at all. (Please keep this post on technical topic only. Post somewhere else if you want to agrue about how unsafe the DVD in the car. I just don't want to get in an arguement)

    I don't have any experience beyond my advanced package plug-in model. But I can say that it will playback DVD video from the audio slot.

    That discovery really surprised me. I thought playing video was only possible from the navigation system drive. But accidently inserting a DVD from a 2-disc package rather than a CD quickly set me straight. There was a blue window on the audio screen. And sure enough, when I pressed the emergency brake... ta-da! There was video playing on the screen, complete with menu features.

    It's an interesting feature if you ever hopelessly get stuck traffic in stopped traffic or simply have to blow some time while waiting for someone. I now keep a few episodes of M*A*S*H in my car, just in case. You never know when that could come in handy.

    My kids I wait for my wife in the car a lot. DVD is a big bonus. I will check with other disks to verify the C. Toyota may removed this feature form the C. Also, your car is 2012. It more popular with DVD back at that time, so it help increase sale if they have this feature. Now, seem like they try to avoid the DVD to save their A$$ from law suit in case accident. Beside, DVD is about to get obsolete, so it won't affect their sale.

    Yes it is possible, you need a "Navigation lock pick". I have one for my F-150. I can play any DVD even while in motion and enter addressed while in motion and all of the aggravating agree/proceed at your own risk screens go away. They offer it for the Prius but I am not sure if it's out for the Prius C yet, you will have to call and ask. Really it was easy to install. You just remove your NAV screen disconnect the wires and connect this system in between the NAV screen and the wires coming from the car. Super easy to do. Here is a link to the Prius. Just call and see if they have the C's stuff ready yet. I know they were working on it.

    No it depends on how many functions the lock pick does, the one for my ford was $290. But it does everything. And to me really is worth it. I can even see my rear view camera when I am driving down the road to check on my trailer connnection. The vehicle no longer has to be in reverse. $290 is a lot but it was totally worth it to me.

    Looks like the Prius C sold down under gets a more advanced audio unit, one that will play some DVIX video from a USB stick. Saw this at toyota.com.au.
