This morning in Seattle, the temperature was in the middle 30s… There was a little bit of ice on the porch. When I went out to my 2012 PiP, which was plugged in all night, the lights were on the dashboard were lit up, and and the headlights and running lights were all on! When I opened up the door it beeped as if it were locked before, and I briefly heard the fan was running at full force, and before I could even do anything, everything shut off by itself. Any ideas? If I had inadvertently left it in the 'on' state all night, surely it would not have all shut off when I opened the door, right? Plus, last night, we would have seen the car with its lights on, since it is visible from multiple windows in the house. I am perplexed.
Possible someone activated the remote climate control, which can only pre-cool, not pre-warm, but might have come on anyway, and does shut off after 10 minutes or when the door is opened.
Damn. I should have thought of that. Being that I am in Seattle, I don't think I have used that feature in my 3 years of ownership.
Oh, and BTW, for EVERY single Toyota survey that I have received, I request a cabin pre-heater, running off household AC power. That is my single biggest gripe, in an otherwise very positive experience.
That has potential to be a major energy waster. It could draw as much as a full recharge. Electric heater comes on virtually instantly. I wish Gen2 PiP to have rear electric seats also.
^^ "That has potential to be a major energy waster. It could draw as much as a full recharge. Electric heater comes on virtually instantly." >It's not a 'waste' if you enjoy sitting down in a nicely warmed up car. >What is the cost of 'a full recharge' in a PiP? 10-15 cents? It's better than coming out to a car warming up in cloud of gas stink. Plus you can't warm it up that way in a garage. >No current PHEV or BEV has 'instant Electric heat'. Even if you could get warm air blowing out the vents quickly, everything else in the cabin is frozen. The ability to 'Precondition' the cabin of the car, hot or cold, is awesome, especially when you can do it from a phone app while in your office at work!!
I meant not ideal. Gas engine produces waste heat. So you could cogenerate cabin while turning the wheel. However, the waste heat generated at the power plant will not make it into car cabin. Electricity is meant to drive the wheels so heating using it as "waste".
or like some of the other plugins - by way of timers - built into the car as well as settable via your apps . slurry? - that's less familiar to me then fly over .
Oops - sorry - yeah I definitely need another eye exam & thicker glasses {EDIT} Regarding the self starting car - just thought of one other thing, although its most likely the OP was correct about butt dialing. That said, the car we bought for our daughter would occasionally self start. Turns out there was stray RF being transmitted, & so that's another possibility - somebody else's garage door opener - somebody else's remote start, even amateur radio at high power operating on UHF can activate an auto start device receiver in the 400mhz range, as well as several other types of radio transmitters. ....... Ok , back to finding where I left my glasses. .
