Its almost that time to go to the dreaded gas station. I have had the car for 13 days, and have over 650 miles on my PIP. My PIP says, I need to put more gasoline in its tank within 32 miles. I was wondering how low peeps have gone before getting gas? This reminds me of a Seinfeld episode when Kramer test drove a car, with the sales person, and eventually ran out of gas on the highway. All this being said, I know its really bad to run the car w/out Gas, so this is not what this post is all about. My goal is to make my payment, with what I am saving in gas, so far I have saved over $90.00.
A sound will beep, the screen will display a warning, and the last pip will flash repeatedly when you're in the "best to fill up very soon" zone. Personally, I would just fill up at that point. Having to wait so long for stats is an interesting new problem. Currently at 528 miles averaging 97 MPG, it's still going to be awhile for me to reach the beep & flash. .
I was also waiting for a "real" low fuel light to come on before I filled-up my first time. The last bar beeped and started flashing and I waited another couple days or so (I knew I wouldnt be using much gas the next few days) before I finally went to the gas station. I ended up putting in 9.1 gallons. I second what John said, wait until it starts blinking and you should be OK. Of course, if you know you'll need more than say 1-1.5 gallons of gas before you can make it to a gas station, then fill up before.
I broke down and re-fueled when dte said 16 miles, and one solid bar left on gas gauge. If it was a road trip, might have been sooner --- I am here: http://tapatalk.com/map.php?sle3jk
I'm at 513 miles, with 4 pips left on the fuel gauge. On the EV/HV screen, it indicates how much fuel you have used, mine shows 5 gallons/55KW used which means there are about 4 gallons left.. most of my daily commuting in both directions is in EV. I'm still using the initial dealer fillup from Saturday, 4/21 when I picked up the PiP.
I was at 503 - took 8.2 gal. I have a 30 mile RT daily, and spending less than $4.25/gal for reg unl is my goal. So that leaves out almost everywhere except my immediate neighborhood. For some reason, we have most of the few remaining independents within a mile of here. That means fill up at home or risk paying through the nose later… Of course, we're only talking about a dollar more per tank at that point, but every one I don't have to spend counts. The gas stations nearest my work are still in the $4.30s for a gallon of reg unl!
