Hi folks, I found a lot of great threads here helping me choose my components and how to run the wires properly... this was my first subwoofer install in a car and it went very smoothly. Big thanks to Murali for his awesome guide (Subwoofer installation in my 2008 Prius (with JBL Audio) | PriusChat)... I followed his instructions for tapping into the speakers at the amp and in the center console for the remote power trigger.

The main requirement I had was I needed something concealable and which wouldn't hinder my ability to store stuff in the back (I ski, so I needed enough room to fold down a seat and stick my skis). I went with the JL CP108LG-W3v3 (
    JL Audio CP108LG-W3v3 MicroSub™ slot-ported enclosure with one 8" W3v3 subwoofer at Crutchfield.com
) and paired it with a Boston Acoustics 802 (
    Boston Acoustics GTA-802 2-channel car amplifier — 80 watts RMS x 2 at Crutchfield.com
). This is actually a two channel amp, but when in bridged mode, it puts out 260W RMS @ 4ohms, perfect for the sub which is rated at 250W RMS @4ohms. I also liked this amp because it has 0.05% THD, whereas most mono amps seem to have 0.1%, so it should actually sound a little better. I got a wiring kit off of Amazon (Amazon.com: KnuKonceptz KCA Complete 8 Gauge Amp Installation Kit: Car Electronics) and also picked up the remote gain knob from there.

Here's a pic of the general setup... the extra speaker wire coiled up is so I can move the sub around:

Close up of the amp, fits perfectly on the left side:

    Cover installed, but open:

And it sounds great... I listen to a ton of bass heavy music (hip-hop, drum and bass, dubstep, etc) and I was a little worried about it only being an 8", but as the reviews on many sites say, this JL sub hits hard and you would think it was much larger. Very pleased!

It's not the size of the woofer, it's the volume of the enclosure that matters most. An 8" sub with a properly matched enclosure can deliver plenty of hearing damage... which is part of the reason why I've had tinnitus since my late teens.

Well, finally, another Tinnitus victim & sufferer!
Isn't this thing a bitch, I have it screaming in my head 24/7, well except when I am asleep! To many explosives as a youth, then Rock Concerts & mixing sound while in College for local bands, and 38 years of noise in the TV industry has left my ears pretty much shot!
Sorry to hijack the thread, but in 20 or so years there are going to be many threads about Tinnitus....a prediction!
Just like when I told my room mates in 1973, that when we we get years older, we are going to have car commercials with Led Zeppelin music behind the announcer, they all laughed at me, I think the weed helped, but lo & behold, Cadillac did just as I predicted.
    Who would have thunk it!
Now if I could just get rid of this DAMN Tinnitus, a kings ransom for the cure!
Oh damn, I forgot, very nice install. I installed mine in the same location. I have a built in amp on mine. How did you fasten the speaker to the floor?
Sorry for the slight hijack thing.....

I actually do not have it secured down... I'm not sure the best way to do it because i want to be able to rotate it and remove it if I need the space. It really doesn't move much right now with just having the speaker carpet on the prius carpet, I wonder how dangerous it is? I was thinking of getting some short speaker spikes, like these: Amazon.com: Sewell Speaker Spikes, 4 Pack: Electronics

Of course I wouldn't use the bottom pieces so that it bit in nicely.

I didn't check, but another thread on here somebody did that with this sub, but they had to cut a hole in the hard cover because with the grill on it would stick out too far. I kind of liked the cubby idea, but I didn't want to create a huge hassle every time I needed to get to the battery or spare tire, so I opted against it. Plus with a ported sub like this, I would think it would sound quite a bit worse inside there.

If you're involved in a front-end collision at freeway speed, that box might come flying at your head at 50+ mph.

    Wonder if that's dangerous?

I bolted mine to the cover over HV battery. Yes, I removed the cover before I drilled the holes, and be careful, the carpet will snag on a fast drill bit. Drill from the plastic side, and as soon as you pop through STOP! You can then push an awl through and make a hole in the carpet. If you want a permanent hole, heat the awl to just melt the carpet. I managed to make a hole and slip the mounting screws up from the bottom and screwed into the corner mounts I milled for the BOSS.I then hid everything with cloth covered panels!

I'm not too concerned about the subwoofer hitting me in the head in an accident... I always have various deadly objects in my car, and it would be quite an accident to fly through or over the back seat, based on where it is. I'll take my chances. I am more worried about the ease of stealing.

Even more reason to secure the box with a semi-permanent attachment method.

i hope it sounds good when you play actual music, instead of that cRAP garbage. no question the excursion of those subs is amazing. looks like they move over an inch. the problem with "bandbass" subs is they tend to make all the bass notes sound the same. an efficient bandpass sub basically ruins the music.

Yea just choose that song to show the bass, but when I play say sublime or nickleback or anything along those lines it's nice tight bass.

    I don't get what you're trying to say here? That's not a BP set-up...

i know. just pointing out that bp's don't really work for actual music, and rap isn't actual music. since i am stupid enough to live near DC, frequently i hear idiots blasting awful noise. and even if there is an actual melodic bassline, the bp will mud all the notes till they all sound pretty much the same. i'm hoping his box doesn't do that.
being an old fart, i'd like to hear some Zep from his car. of course youtube isn't gonna do it justice. or hell if he's gonna play sublime 2 joints would work...

just took another look; you better make sure you don't vibrate your spoiler loose. might need to put some extra 2-sided tape under it to keep it in place and insulate it from rattling. and, i now know i do need a sub.
