Hi. While driving on I-684 a large black plastic nut type part fell off and landed on my left foot from the area of the hood release. It is about the size of a thumbnail and and is elongated with a small x marking on one end. The inside is not threaded. It appears to snap or be pushed on to something. I stopped and looked up under the dash but could find no obvious place it fit. Any ideas?

    ThankswW

Lets hope it was an orphan part that got left up there at the factory, and was never actually attached to anything. Somebody or some robot dropped it and just grabbed another.

It wouldn't be a Robot dropping it ;) They don't use Robots in Assembly, but they sure so in the Weld shop.

I'd hate to hear that a robot dropped a nut.

I found an extra rubber bung in the spare wheel well yesterday, damn confusing when the ones that are supposed to be there are all in place.

This might be the nut that holds the left plastic foot well shield in place. Look for a threaded bolt end that is missing a nut.

That is exactly correct. I've removed this panel many times.

Edit: The location is at the upper right corner, if you have your head in the driver's side footwell looking left at the panel.
