After reading a number of threads on the 12 volt battery issues I purchased a basic portable jump starter unit, $ 42 Schumacher from Walmart.

Naturally, having purchased this device means the battery will hold it's charge while I'm out of town for 12 days...I hope.

I hate to admit it...I fell for the dealer installed alarm system, I know, you don't even need to say it.

Anyway...not sure what the rate of draw is for this type alarm system, just wanted to be ready if it sucks the battery dry. If it does kill the battery it'll be a good reason for the stealer to refund the purchase price...good luck with that one for sure.

I travel frequently and don't really want to disconnect a terminal every time, it's pretty rediculious having to even think about this every time you park this thing for 10+ days.

    Let the hammering begin..

Agreed... disconnecting the alarm would help with batt discharge, then what would the point of even having it be.

Doesn't really matter now, the portable jumper will get me home if need be.
