We had a real situation here recently, with a rainstorm that occurred right after they had applied some sealant step to fresh pavement. Long story short, every car that went over this stretch, including my day old Blizzard Pearl IV, got covered with a brown, oily tar stuff. A lot of people had to have a full detailing (on the state's dime ) to remove the stuff. Fortunately, since I don't follow too close or go too fast, Gidget (that's my IV's name) didn't get it as bad as a lot of cars, but she did get hit around the wheel wells pretty good. We used a spray bug and tar remover by Turtle Wax that worked very well. It removed the stuff instantly and it claims not to strip the wax, either. I can't vouch for the wax stripping or lack thereof, as I hadn't even waxed her yet, but it definitely took the goop off pretty easily - no hard rubbing at all. We were careful to use light pressure and keep turning the rag so that grit did not get ground into the paint and we used a toothbrush to get into some of the seams between panels.

Unfortunately, as we were studying really close to make sure we cleared the tar goop, we discovered that there are some flaws in the paint that we didn't notice during the pickup inspection. They look like light tan splatters embedded in the clearcoat, behind the front tires at the bottom of the fender. I thought they might be remnants of the tar, but they are something else entirely - one body shop guy I asked called it "rail dust". Whatever it is, it won't come off without buffing off most of the clearcoat, and I'd rather live with a few tiny spots than have a brand new car resprayed, so I'm going to pretend I never saw them.

As far as your problem goes though, the Turtle Wax should take care of it without too much trouble, if its anything like the stuff we drove through. Good luck!

 

it could also be the tire cleaner or shinner that you use. we have a blizzard white also and when we purchased the car, the dealer put some tire shine and the next day i saw some brown spot on the same place and i tried to remove it but i couldnt, i had to use a pc to remove it. good luck

 

Try claying that rail dust. It can't hurt, and you'd be surprised what it can pull out of the surface of the clearcoat.

 

It's been raining a lot here lately and Gidget lives outside, so not the best conditions to judge the shine of the finish in detail. But from what I could tell, the Turtle Wax Bug & Tar Remover did not dull the finish at all. If anything, it left behind a very light coat of wax - looked great after.

 

You must use some serious car wash, or the surface is so waxed that bugs just slide off (like mine lately after the Klasse AIO and sealant application). What do you use?


And WD40 is a good tar/bug remover.

 

I'll use a quick detailer spray like Eagle One or Meguiar's and they slide right off.

But as I suspected, yours is almost effortless because of the prior surface prep.

 

Try bug & tar remover. Rain-X gel works great. Naturally, you'll need to wash & wax afterward.

 

I'm not sure if my brown dots are really rail dust. They don't look like little round spots, so much as splatters - you can see the direction they were sprayed from the tire. Staining from a tire dressing would fit better with the pattern, but nothing would take it off, not even a light polishing compound I will give the clay a try though - it's new to me, but seems to be recommended lots of places.

read my reply again, this happened to my pearl prius. brand new and the dealer wash it and applied tire shine on it before i left the dealer. the next day, i prep the car with quick detailer and saw the same brown splash pattern. i tried wiping it with quick detailer but no luck so i used my pc and its gone.
