Our entry level Prius is $40,000 plus on roads. It is about equal to a Prius III although it has head up display.

Personally I'd love to see a totally stripped Prius here, I mean manual windows, 2 speaker sound, steel wheels, non metallic paint, cheaper seats etc. Would be a perfect base for those looking to customise and it would allow people of more limited means to get into a Prius.

 

I'll sell my III at a loss and buy one for that price!

That's a nice discount threw Costco. Is it worth it to become a member just for the Costco auto discount? Do you need a gold star or executive membership?

 

Costco membership is either $50 or $100 depending on the level. Even at $100, and package I is what you want, you are still saving $900 right?

I am not sure what the purchase process is or if it takes longer than a standard purchase. Seems like it would be a good deal but it would be nice to hear from someone who has been through the process.

 

Thanks for the heads up. My buddy is the Fleet Director at a dealer here in Phoenix and they have been getting sticker for these cars. I will be ready to buy one in Dec or Jan and it will definitely be a pkg 1 as I plan on adding quite a bit of audio equipment to car. Believe it or not, it really hasn't impacted my mileage to much on Civic Hybrid.

 

So what does the Package I come with?

 

I started trying to buy a Prius through Costco when the C4C program rolled out. The discount wasn't that significant for a package II ($300), but it was better than MSRP. Essentially Costco has prenegotiated prices with certain dealers. You contact Costco and they tell which dealers to go to. The dealer gives you the Costco price. The Costco price varies by location as I expect that they negotiate with dealers individually. If you are willing to travel for your car, you might check the Costco price in other locations. If you have a trade, you still need to haggle over that. In my case, because of C4C, there were no available cars at the local Costco Toyota dealer and I got on the wait list for mid September (this was in July). I ended up finding a car out of town and ultimately bought that one. Didn't get the Costco discount, but in my case it was minimal anyway. The quote for the package I is really pretty good in comparison.

 

No no, you're misinterpreting costco's website (assuming you're on the "vehicle research" portion of costco's website).

On the website, they have an "invoice" and an "MSRP", and down below that they have a "Ignore the MSRP --- We offer exclusive member's only pricing". You've listed the invoice price, and the invoice column is definitely NOT the pricing that you can get from Costco. For instance, on the II,III, IV, and V, a local Costco affiliated dealer will do $250 off MSRP (which is nowhere near that invoice column).

You have to go to the Costco dealer to see the price that they offer (which could possibly vary by dealership... one dealer in my area (Mossy) is a Costco dealer, but excludes Prius currently, while Carlsbad does the MSRP - $250).
