    I believe this is the interlock code I have this right now on a generation one Prius sitting at a tow lot in North Carolina I noticed the people have taken off the inverter lid under the hood with the big green writing or whatever on it I see no interlock switch like the generation 2 on the hood of the inverter under the hood of the car on this little '01 coupe in the back of the car there is an orange what looks to be an interlock switch clip that pushes in and a hoop lifts up but it does not push down or have another detent position The interlock plug right next to this little interlock orange clip looks to be in good shape and when I unplug it and plug it back together everything seems okay I have not disconnected or pulled out this plastic business that holds the interlock switch to see any deeper the people who own the car say that they looked under the inverter hood just to see what they could see they don't really know what they're doing and looking under the hood of the inverter there's no interlock there's no special torques screw either they're all just the think 10 mm but I have the 3140 code that will not go away?

    Wiring diagram and multimeter? There are only two switches and four lengths of wire to check.

    The HV ECU, despite being kind of on the floor under the passenger's feet, plugs to the instrument panel wire harness. The ILK circuit runs to the battery interlock switch in the floor wire harness, then to the inverter cover switch in the engine bay harness. The connectors from instrument panel to floor harness, and floor harness to engine bay harness, are both behind the driver's left kick panel.

    As far as I can tell chap there is no inverter switch under the hood of the inverter I have the lid off I'm looking I don't see anything like the pictures that the guy had further back in a similar post in the 01 section My board looks completely different It's a big old thing I have it off looking at it when I put the lid down and put a screw in it it doesn't change a thing the interlock is good on the battery I've tested it it has continuity and then it doesn't when you click it or vice versa It seems to be working so there's more interlocks underneath the seat that makes sense this car looks like it might have had water in it

    The inverter has green writing and a sticker on it instead of the gold business like the generation 2 does not have a switch on it like the generation 2 I can't find anything that would make the lid coming off do anything in particular I have pictures but I they don't post well so but the lid has nothing in it not a strip of copper not a thing A rubber gasket that's it.

    To be clear I also have a 3125 with a 287 code along with p3000 p3140 and a c1259 I can clear the codes and until I put it in gear all I will have is the 3140 and the 12:59 The minute I move it to gear the 300 3125 come into play

    Toyota would be surprised to learn that. The switch they put there should pull pin 6 of connector I10 (a violet wire with a red stripe) to ground when the cover is on.

    Could that be the story? Somebody replaced the guts of the inverter with different guts that are missing the switch?

    I see a few connectors in the inverter itself to orange ones on each side I think two in the middle a bunch of little red connectors all plugged onto this motherboard looking affair The lid is completely clear like the generation 2 lid has these two little pins or a receptacle for the two little pins and when you put the lid on I guess that satisfies the interlock condition when the car is booted this 01 thing The lid is clear I mean there's nothing on the lid except a gasket and it's a silver lid like the generation 2 but no I don't see how it would ground I guess I'll have to look closer I have an '02 here on the same property lifting its inverter I removed the screws out of it and it looks exactly the same as the car with the trouble this other car is a junker in a tow lot.

    The car will start with the inverter lid off I know that's not a good idea The generation 2 won't do that at all I don't think I'm not tried it but with those two pins not bridged I don't think so when I put this 01 in gear and step on the gas and hold the brake I can see the battery literally charging The battery in this 01 is fairly new refurb doorman something It's clean. If I try to move the car forward I have to step almost floor it and it'll barely move in the transmission or something in the drive line doesn't sound too pleasing but the person who owns the car said what the problem was is they would drive down the road about 10 mi and then it would go into some kind of limp mode and they barely get it home..

    Yup. :) When the manual and wiring diagram tell you there's an interlock circuit and you're not seeing it, you know the problem to be solved is the you-not-seeing-it problem.

    The diagrams only show where the interlock circuit in the wiring harness connects to the inverter (I10 pin 6), but doesn't show what happens inside the inverter. There are actually two lid interlocks, and two internal connectors. There'd be no reason for the internal connectors to be undone normally, but only if somebody replaced a circuit board or something and missed reconnecting them.

    54:30 in this video you see three of the four things, and 58:30 the remaining one.

    Yeah I don't have the inverter taken apart that far that round circular piece on the side of the inverter I guess that houses the pins and things that are like under the generation twos regular silver cover so this inverter hasn't been torn down that far so I guess I need to tear it down that far and look at that interlock business that's under that round cover interesting I have another hole inverter sitting in another car 20 ft away so maybe we'll see interesting for sure so you can just whip off the big silver cover on this model and actually run the car without the cover on which is not a good idea but you could do it in the generation too you can't start the car do anything I don't think unless that covers in place and probably at least one bolt in it.

    My very big mistake of not pointing out that there is no lid interlock on the inverter like the generation 2 and I imagine the three has something similar if you try to take the lid off the inverter. That's what I was looking for when I lifted the lid to see if there was something that could stop the show electrically and apparently there's not because this lid in this 01 car has about four broken bolts the heads are snapped off from somebody trying to take it off or maybe tightening it up I don't know and there's no special torques bolt in these lids it's actually over to the side on that round do dad I think which seemingly houses some kind of interlock device but it doesn't have anything to do I don't think with the lid of the inverter just on the lid of that round thing or something I can barely see it in the pictures and I don't want to take it apart if I don't have to but it looks like I'm going to have to look in there because I have an interlock code everything looks quite clean on the car interior including the floor where that metal plate is on the passenger side Very clean No moisture no dirt the carpets are clean this car inside is extremely clean what's not so clean is under the hood The person who changed this inverter for whatever reason these aren't real smart people they paid somebody to change the inverter and I guess maybe this person broke all the bolts and so on and so forth. They were able to drive the car at one point it would go 10 miles going to the limp mode and would be hell to get back home. I was just trying to help the guy basically get it straightened out because he's got five generation 2 sitting there that I can get all the parts I want for pretty much nothing two leather interiors that are in perfect condition five break actuators which two or three of the cars I can power up in the remotes are there and they don't have any ABS codes at this time I told the guy that this is not the model really to be fooling with what you really want is a generation too like the car that's parked behind this thing that we're fooling with that like what I'm driving this is a cute thing but I don't know doesn't seem very viable it seems like this may have been sitting quite some time but it's clean inside I told him not to touch the dash If you look at it wrong it will break the plastic.

    This is getting weird. The gen 1 cover interlocks on the inverter are clearly shown in the video linked in post #9, at 54:30 in.

    The confusion comes in saying "gee, there's no interlock under this cover" when the gen 1 inverter has three covers. Two of them have interlocks, but the big one in the middle doesn't.

    Right and that's the one unfortunately everybody undoes for I don't even know what reason but there we are now I have to go looking at the interlock under that little round cover and what have you because maybe the person didn't put it together correctly I have no idea like I say I was just trying to help this guy out so I could strip a couple cars and of course you know it's more of a big mess than anything else like I told the guy just pick one of these generation too as we can have it running in a few hours and you'll never look back The coop is cute and all that but it's probably not a thing once the dashboard and what not gets broken pretty much done I'm super glue and yikes and generation two you avoid all these problems until you have a wreck

    One of my parts cars is an 01 with a known-good inverter if you want me to check it out or you need it/parts. lmk

    I think this guy will give up rather than carry this too far this coop is in very good shape interior wise but under the hood it looks like people bought this car and then a lot of people had a lot of fun with it playing with it looking at it experimenting I don't know whatever it is that people do with a new type of vehicle after a few years of use you know looks like people just kind of had fun with it but the interior isn't very nice shape other than the center screen which is about shot It's all brown and kind of messed up I'm not sure why I would do this personally the generation too just seems like the go-to Prius at this point I'd like to have a little coop but all the problems and the nonsense and the plastics and traveling to go get everything and running all over the country I don't know seems kind of not the thing for me to be doing.

    LOL, yeah. I try to find cherries that work, but it's hard to know. However, they always show an under-hood pic and you can tell how much it's been messed with. Good news is that most of the poorly maintained Gen1s are dying out. Of the few left, there's a higher percentage of below average mileage cars than you'd typically see. The one I'm negotiating on now had 2 owners in 23 years. Someone took real good care of it for a long time. The next guy, not so much, lol.

    Now days, most people wouldn't use the screen much anyway - they play music from some other device and just use the car's speakers through a bluetooth FM modulator or one of the older cassettes.

    There's really just three options with Gen 1s - collect the low-mileage cherries, drive any others until they quit (worth more in miles than dollars), or scrap them. It's pretty easy to pick which is which.

    This guy for some reason really wants to drive this car I guess it's because the interior is clean and it is under hood is relatively clean no oil leaks some moron has been fooling with the inverter and I don't think the original inverter needed to be fooled with they just didn't know how to work the car and so then they started reading probably here or elsewhere and got the idea that they should be fooling with the inverter for some reason when the real deal was probably the battery was bad or going bad The original battery is still here I'm looking at it but not testing it as it's been sitting out of the car for I don't know a couple of weeks I think they have a new rebuilt or some kind of battery in the vehicle that looks like it's been charged and it's good to go doesn't have a isolation issues or nothing I guess it looks like they paid money for it decent money it's blue colored doesn't look like it's been spray painted it looks like the cover's been painted professionally actually kind of weird but it looks good The plug in the back looks good the little switch pops down when I lift the plug in or push it or whatever you do back there that little orange thing but yet I still have an interlock problem and it seems past the battery in the trunk so I'm guessing the dude who put the inverter in or changed out the inverter doesn't really know about the circular interlock switch assembly that sits off to the side or maybe didn't assemble that correctly or something along those lines I'm not really sure under the carpet on the passenger side everything looks very clean this car's never taken on water been flooded nothing when I lift up the carpet that metal plate underneath the carpet is brand new Toyota Brown doesn't have a scratch on it I'm going to look under that plate today and try to see what possibly could be going on under there apparently there's a bunch of interlock business or modules or something down there that control some of this stuff? But it is extremely clean I kind of doubt anything down here is damaged I hope it is and it's obvious. But it looks like the inverter is going to have to be undone pretty much completely to look at the connections on that little circular piece I think it's on the right side of the inverter when you're standing in front of the car that looks to be the interlock business on the inverter itself as these inverters don't have an interlock directly on the big silver cover which is kind of weird so people can take the big silver cover off play around and then get the hell shocked out of them and oh well they're out of here You can't really do that on a generation too or maybe not even a three The minute you undo the funny screw lift the lid well seems like the battery shut down It's kind of like pulling the battery safety switch it seems.

    Why not just swap in a different inverter? The rest of the car sounds good. I got some, they're on Ebay for $100, and are an easy swap. Can't imagine popping the top off of one and trying to repair anything inside - except one that I have...the wreck pushed it backwards just enough to crack the orange power cable connector. You have to take the top off to disconnect the cables inside when swapping on a replacement, but still easy.

    Well there's an extra one sitting in a car here they're both 0 ones like I say I was just trying to see if I could help this guy out quickly so I can strip a couple of cars in his lot before they go to the junkyard this guy doesn't really care about any of this stuff He just bought his wife a Tesla I don't know why in the world he's trying to put an '01 Prius on the road because no one else has one is probably the deal some folks are just like that The inverter that's in the car right now was put in haphazardly more than likely by somebody that doesn't really know what they were doing It has this interlock code which I'm going to guess maybe came online when the inverter was installed somebody didn't do something correctly with that little circle interlock deal so I'm just going to take a quick look and see at that time we also have the option of lifting out the other inverter and dropping it in the car I just have to get past the interlock business It doesn't seem like it's under the board in the inverter that's just where the plugs are for the interlock but the interlock is actually over under that little round cover and if it wasn't assembled correctly lined up the pins dry I don't even know what it looks like under there but if somebody just smashed the pins and they didn't go into their holes or plug or whatever then here we would be Chapman said to pull the plate in the passengers floor it looks brand new under there I mean there's not even a scratch on that plate so I'm going to pull it and have a look I'm guessing there's plugs and relays and whatever's under there but that wouldn't seem to me to just randomly stop working not with what else has been done to the car The inverter replacement was probably done by somebody that doesn't really understand what is going on here they just read something That's my guess given where the car is parked the kind of people that live in this part of town and all of that sort of thing this is what the situation would kind of point to.
