I think you replaced it at the perfect mileage. I own a fleet of Priuses and I change the pump between 80,000 and 100,000 miles.
If I buy a used Prius with over 80k miles, the first thing is do is replace the pump.

The Gen 3’s rarely throw a code for a bad pump.

First engine coolant change is 100K miles or 10 years, whichever comes first. As long as it's the miles that comes first, maybe that's a good time to replace engine coolant pump (aka water pump). Similarly for Inverter coolant pump, at 150K miles or 15 years*? Both are subsequently 50K miles or 5 years, so if the months governed (miles were much less), then do it at a subsequent interval where the miles are about 100K.

* US Schedule. Canadian Schedule says to change both coolant circuits at 100K miles (160K kms) or 10 years.

Also, Amayama does not charge sales tax or import duty, at least not this far, on small items I've purchased.

Buyee.jp has the WPT190 listed at $139.40. It’s about $40 for DHL shipping from Japan for up to 5kg weight.

 

I stopped buying auto parts from auction sites and Amazon sellers unless they're traditional businesses -- like a Toyota dealership, or the Denso's store, etc. Too many counterfeit parts out there. I got burned on "OEM iridium spark plugs".

The Denso water pump is available at RockAuto for $192, and you know you're getting a Denso part.

 

With shipping, say to lower 48 States?

Amayama I strongly suspect will never have counterfeit parts. Purely a hunch, but that's their bread and butter. For me in Canada it's worked out well so far; a lot of US retailers won't ship to here, or shipping is too much.

 

To complicate the matter further, Toyota of Louisville, is $216.29 and right now they are offering free ground shipping on orders over $200.

 

My cost from Amayama, all in, is about 235 CDN, converts to ~175 USD. Do check it out for your loc's.

 

+1 on Amayama, though shipping times have gotten very slow due to COVID (they say).

 

Code popped when I was driving 80mph. Gas pedal was disabled. It was a little scary as I was trying to merge 3 lanes to pull onto the shoulder. Water pump changed at 107,452 miles. I replaced it with Aisin WPT-190. It now has almost 164,000 miles and no codes.

 

The ECU can detect that the waterpump has failed?

 

I'd imagine so because I got the check engine code. I did speak with a seasoned mechanic about it and he said most likely there's an electrical spike and tripped the code but replacing it is good insurance.
