P148F - engine coolant pump over revolution

Yes, and soon would be good. There have been some reports of a failure mode where the pump impeller has separated from the motor shaft. That'd explain the car detecting the motor over speed, because it's spinning without doing any work.

Meanwhile the work it's supposed to be doing and isn't is what protects your engine from overheat damage.

When the coolant isn't moving, you can't be lulled into complacency just because the overheat light only comes on a little. It's fed by a temperature sensor that's only measuring the non-moving coolant in one place.

 

Could you provide the part number? My buddy’s Prius is doing the same thing. Thanks.

I'm guessing the same thing, but don't really know.

 

Don’t order car pets without the year, model and trim level. Put the wrong water pump on an engine and it will quickly disintegrate.

 

The Amayama link works out to about $175 USD for me, all in with shipping, and I've yet to be charged sales tax or duties

 

and never before checking with ASPCA.

So I got codes P0117,P0117,P148F from the Dr. Prius App using a Veepak OBD2 reader. There was some visible coolant leak in front of the inverter on a 2013 PriusC. The engine coolant reservoir did look a little low. Was too dark to see everything but any suggestions on if it the engine or inverter pump?

 

looks like P148F usually comes with P0117.
But i have these 4 codes on my 2016 Prius which has 51K and Dealer is saying engine has to be replaced
P148F P00B111, P011511 , P319000

 

I have these two codes as well0117,P148F … I just replaced the water pump. It had that problem with the impeller outer coating on the magnet being compromised. I also noticed that some of the coolant had disappeared… I did not see any leaks under the water pump or around the water pump. I’m wondering, where did that coolant go? hopefully it was just a lake from the water pump, but my concern is that maybe it went through the head gasket? I don’t have any evidence of that either. Spark plugs all look normal. No coolant inside the cylinder heads. So I’m wondering if I have the car fixed or if there may possibly be a head gasket issue? if anyone has any knowledge of this, and may possibly be still following this thread, please chime in!

 

I think the coolant was pushed out the overflow tube near the cap of the reservoir. Look for evidence of dried coolant around the reservoir.

Hopefully, you noticed the overheating quickly enough that you did not cause any damage to the head gasket.
