P0A80, triangle of death, Block voltage #11 54volts

    Triangle of death
    Error code P0A80
    Torque app with bluetooth obd2
    All blocks from 1 to 10 looks fine but block 11 shows 54+ volts. Block 12 shows 2 volts, Block 13 0v and block 14 -0.3v
    Before I got the obd2 I voltage test all batteries but they where the same voltage -+ 0.5v
    What could be causing this issue?

    I think the warranty on the c might only be 8 year /100k:cool:.

    It could be a connection issue as it is intermittent ;).

    Some questions:
    • Are you the original owner?
    • Any history of damage to your Prius?
    • Any recent events with your Prius?
    • How does the Prius run while the app is showing the charge behavior?

    No, I'm not the original owner.

    The previous owner carfox don't show nothing of importance.

    What happened days before the triangle was a napkin that got sucked In to the vent of the hybrid battery and the car show me a warning about the temperature on the battery or something like that.

    The prius run fine but only on gas for what I see. The engine never stops (like when on battery) and the acceleration, speed and stopping feels different but besides that feels fine.

    I cleared the code and run some tests yesterday.
    First image the battery was fully charge. 2nd was at 2 bars. Today the triangle come back again as spected.

    What I’d do is take the back of te prius apart and find the napkin or what is left is it;).

    Then see what other damage may have been done to the fan.

    i didn't know the c only gets 8/100. that's an important point when trying to decide between the c and lift back.

    Not sure but not every hybrid gets 10/150 out here;).

    Our 2017 Lexus RX450h only has the 8/100:cool:.

    So might be worth checking but not getting hopes too high(y).

    Any damage or was it in small pieces?

    it was just blocking the vent, it never go in. The fan works fine as far I can tell

    An important point to consider is that the C model only has 20 modules....therefore only 10 blocks.....

    you'd spend an awful lot of time troubleshooting blocks 11-14 on a C

    Step 1 would be to correct your torque setup
    Step 2 would be to get an accurate reading of codes which would hopefully include freeze frame data so you can see which (if any) block is acting up.

    Would be great to get techstream connected to see short wave reading to see if you have a HV isolation issue.

    When you had it apart for measuring voltages, did you notice any dark shaded discoloration of the steel base plate near the module bottoms? That's usually a good indicator you have a module leak. Leaks rarely affect the voltage of the modules, but cause significant degradation of the HV isolation.

    Ok after hours of reading and understanding the numbers from the torque app log.

    "The numbers, Mason... What do they mean"

    I think I got my solution.
    Its a dead cell (or block) and another block near to die.

    How I got this:
    The setup was logging the highest and lowest block voltage, the block numbers of highest and lowest voltage and every block voltage also.
    I logged my 30 min trip today with combined times of full charge, usage and discharged battery and I found out that on fully discharge block 5 compared to block 0 had a voltage difference (i believe is called delta) about 1.34v being block 5 the lowest and 0 the highest on different times being the second one a difference of 1.32v.
    Also I found out that block 3 compared to block 0 had a difference of 0.93v and a 2nd time of 0.91v (which according to predictive battery failure analysis block 3 has only a ~30% of life).

    So if I'm right I have a dead cell or block on #5
    (On the whole trip resistances where 0.023-0.025 on average)

    What you guys think?
