I don't have access to the sub-codes. Is there anyone on here around Omaha that could get these for me? The P0340 should be simple and cheap enough to replace the camshaft sensor, but not sure where to start with the other one. Any thoughts?
gotta have the sub codes, there are about 200 of them. As long as that is what the problem is. A sensor code does not mean the sensor failed, it could also be the plug, the wiring or the ECU. I just fixed a problem on a car (not a Prius) where the alternator light was illuminated on the dash. Did I just go out and replace the alternator? No. It turned out to be a break in one of the sense wires. Apart from my time, it was a free fix – but I already had all the tools and things to fix a broken wire. It only took 10-15 min to repair, but took several hours to diagnose and pinpoint the break, due to (in part) researching to get the wiring specs for that car and to understand the way the system works.
Thanks. I know I may not need the new sensor. I just meant if that was the problem, it's an easy fix. Finding out what the problem is is the tough part. I'm looking into a mini vci. Any recommendations? Does the laptop have to be XP or can another OS work?
Yes, the laptop has to run windows either Win XP or Win 7 32-bit. You can use a laptop with another OS, as long as you have virtualisation software such as BootCamp, VMWare or Parallels e. g. on a Mac and run Win XP or Win 7 32-bit in the VM client.
Just so people don't think I'm ignoring your question, it was also asked and answered in a private message. Good luck Zoljargal!
