I replaced all the moldings on my 2010, they also melted like you described. I first replaced only the driver's window, but after a few months, other windows started to do the same. So instead of doing 1 at a time, I just ordered all of them and replaced them all at once.

It was very easy to replace and instructions come with the parts. I bought them from Camelback toyota parts online, which is a dealership in AZ. They offer free shipping after $150. The molding parts were about $30 each and I bought some extra maintenance parts to add up to $150.

 

Interesting! That must be the narrow black rubber strip I recently noticed coming loose on my '11 already on the left (sunny) side, front and rear. The strip, or at least the visible portion thereof, seems not to be terribly degraded, but whatever held it in place (glue??) has let go. That's pitiful! Are new replacements better? What changed about that part on later 3rd-generation Prii?

 

I'm not sure if the part changed, I just know the part is new again. Not sure how long it'll last this time around.

It's not glued on, it's a complete piece. Just degraded

 

If you're talking about the window weather stripping that the windshield pinch on when it goes up, that's an easy piece to replace.

Make sure to roll your window down half way, then insert the stripping down the opening where it usually sits and slowly guide it down until it molds onto the windshield door jam. Make sure to use a lot of silicon spray as the weather stripping will be dry. So the more lube you use, the easier it is to insert it. Once finish inserting it and fitting it onto the door mold, roll the windshield up and let it sink in. That's it.

The right and left sides of an automobile or the engine are determined facing forward from rear of car or as from the point of view of being seated inside the car, facing the front (ie, from the driver's seat). Passenger side = Right side (We drive on the Right side of the road.

Does that part include only the rubber portion, or does it include the rigid plastic outer cover too? How does it come off? Does it pull off straight upward, or what? Please clarify the reason for rolling the window halfway down.

Anybody know whether the current version is improved, so it won't disintegrate in the sun as the originals have?

One of my window belt mouldings (aka weather strips) recently detached itself and jammed my power window. I decided to replace all four mouldings at once, and I'm glad I did, because when I pulled them off they all straight up disintegrated in my hands.

I ordered them from Camelback, which had by far the cheapest prices and pretty quick turnaround, despite a somewhat clunky website. The only problem was that they sent me two of the same moulding, and left one out. The part numbers and labels are really confusing, it's probably an easy mistake to make, but it might be worth putting a note on the order that you need one moulding for each door.

The moulding includes the full plastic and rubber assembly that sits on top of the door frame. So it's a hard plastic frame connected to a gasket that drops into the door connected to what you'd think of as the weather strip itself.

They are pretty easy to get off, depending on their condition. Theoretically, you can just use a screwdriver or spudging tool to release a little tab and then pull out and up. In practice, it takes some wiggling and brute force, but it's pretty easy to figure out.
