Hello Just replaced the engine on a 2013 Prius. Upon trying to start the car “P Lock Malfunction” message is displayed. I have searched a couple threads for possible solutions and nothing has worked. All the fuses under the hood are good. Car is definitely in park, when trying to shake car to try and get parking pawl loose car does not move at all. Had the 12V battery tested at dealership and they said it is good (battery was replaced last year) OBD2 reader (Dr. Prius & Cen-tech reader) showed U0100 code. If anyone has any possible solutions before I try to figure out how to get it towed (since it won’t even go in neutral) to a dealership to be diagnosed it would be greatly appreciated.
Well that's the Saab at the end of your name is because you've owned Saab swedish cars the Prius will be right up your alley just joking of course but anyway if that's the case you should be right at home with the Prius If not well sorry The p lock is one of those things that you know makes it so you can't ready the car nothing will happen whatever it is it's something major probably electrical computers not communicating with each other a horde of things like that You just replaced the engine so everything in the vehicle has been disconnected when I change the engine in my 2013 I kept getting an air conditioning code The car's air conditioning has been ice cold It's whole life was not disconnected for the engine change other than unplugging the compressor and setting it to the side completely connected upon reinsertion of engine transmission and everything else the air conditioning kept throwing a code and draining my battery while I'm watching the display I unplugged the air conditioner for a week because it was still February got the car running well turned out the hybrid battery was very corroded and frosted connections got that situated in the car running perfectly and then in April it started to get a little warmer I just plugged the air conditionings orange plug up turn the AC on low temp medium fan no auto and snowflakes are almost blowing out the vents like always had been and the battery was staying stable and no codes were being thrown and it's been that way ever since. I had a host of codes after the engine transmission swap and nothing was broken or out of whack The car just had to realize everything was reconnected and actually was in place I guess I'm not sure to this day and really don't care.
Update: Turns out I forgot to plug a connector (I think to the transmission position sensor) back. Car finally turned on with a lot of shaking and knocking and is heavily leaking fuel from fuel rail. Will have to take a look.
Update: O-ring on fuel injector was twisted going to replace them all and see what happens. Forgot to mention that when the engine turned on there was smoke come from the engine itself, seemed like it was coming from where the exhaust manifold and engine john. Yes there is a gasket there. I think it might be because cylinder 4 was not getting fuel since it was all leaking out of the fuel rail along with just it being a while since the engine has been used. If anyone knows any other reasons or where I can check please do share.
Yes luckily that didn't cause him pretty good size explosion of course with the cheap fuel today I guess I wouldn't totally expect a full-on fire but that's good.
