Nothing like a Monday on a Saturday!! Was minding my own business sitting in traffic waiting for a light to change when a Ford Escape decides it wants to get up close and personal with Maggie. I am okay and so was the other driver (the most important things) but Maggie got a squished rear end and a hole in the front bumper where the trailer hitch from the truck in front of me left its impression. The hatch is stuck and when I looked in to the bad, the false floor was pushed up. I can't get in the "trunk" area to see what hidden damage I might have. Luckily the driver had full coverage and the insurance company had a message waiting for me when I got home. I will post updates as to the actually damage and estimated time of repair.[attachmentid=6763]

Saturday PM seems to be the riskest time to be on the road - that's when my December hit-and-run took place, and the collision before it.

Unfortunately, I know how you feel. Hope it's State Farm taking care of it.

Be sure everything closes and check the electronics before you leave the body shop.

Sorry to hear about your accident. :( At least everyone's ok! Good luck with the repair process. It sounds like it should go smoothly for you. Small comfort...

At another forum, we were discussing bumpers.

My idea for an improved front bumper is to telescope it two feet infront of the car. It would put a crumple zone before the expensive parts get damaged, and it would also be a wind break to improve fuel economy.

For what this tangent is worth...

I am thankful that it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I was fully aware that I could wake up today and be sore and stiff, but I wasn't so that was a blessing. I am most likely going to take Maggie to my dealership for all the repair work since I have a dealership that I absolutely love. They have been great throughout the buying process and when I go in for routine maintenance. I will follow up with more info as I get it. Thanks again for your support during this time.

Very sad, this is why I regretfully don't drive motorcycles anymore. Good news, at least he had insurance and stopped. With the weather in Minnesota, driver's can up with many excuses - I just couldn't stop because of the ice/snow and whatever. I wish you the very best. I had a small stone thrown up from a semi that put a small dent in my hood (2006 Prius). I selected an auto body shop that works on expensive cars - Mercedes - Porsche - Jag's- Lexus etc. Hope you also get a good auto body shop to repair this damage. My thoughts are with you.

Someone hit the corner of my rear bumper Friday when we were in the bank and left, hit and run. Someone waiting for his partner inside, was in his car and saw it happen. He told us, gave us description and license #. So we called it in and will see what the cops can do for us... :( What will they have to do, replace the whole bumper?

I can't believe how many idiots can't drive in a parking lot. I've had two accidents while I was away from my car. First someone backed into me gashing the rear bumper. Then some big vehicle, probably an SUV road up the side of the car leaving a 4 foot long 4 inch wide streak of black rubber along the side. Not even a note was left in either case. The second fortunately didn't dent the car and I had a good polish protection. All I needed was a "Magic Eraser" to remove all the black with lots of elbow grease.

Don't be surprised if the cops don't do much. It happened on private property. Motor Vehicle Code may not cover it. Good luck.

Sorry about your loss. When stopped you should leave enough space so you can see the bottom of the tires of the car in front of you. If you had that much space and that much damage you must have been hit pretty hard.

Make sure ALL the damaged parts are replaced with new ones and that everything works and is in alignment. Good luck.

Give the license information to your insurance carrier. They will go after the offender.

A hit and run accident is a crime regardless whether it occurs on public or private property.

We really hope you are o.k. Sore and stiff could become worse in a few weeks...please see a doctor if you are not 100%. Also, please do not rush the repair and check it out very good before you accept it. Good luck, our thoughts are with you.

    Hi s.e.tex parrothead

OUCH!! While it's difficult to find anything positive about such damage, it appears your damage may be limited to the bumper covers which would likely not damage the electronics or sheet metal. The bumper covers are plastic-covered foam designed to collapse before the frame and structure of the car is damaged. It is good advice to have a Toyota Prius technician check out your Prius after repairs have been completed and before signing off on the repairs.

You are in the lovely East Texas piney woods, not too far from my birthplace {Nacogdoches} and homeplace {Silsbee}. Nothing like the soothing sound of breezes through the pines...

By the way... There's been recent publicity about the State law regarding obscuring part of the Texas license plate... Loving Toyota's license plate frame breaks that law. Seems officers are not agressively enforcing that law. Another example of poorly written legislation. I removed my dealer's license plate frame, not because of the State law, but I didn't want to 'advertise' for them.
