I've done quite a bit of research on CarsDirect.com before today. In fact, last year I initiated a quote using CarsDirect for an '04 Prius. The "Target Price" always matched MSRP.

NOW, MSRP for a BC (#9) is $26,055 but the "Target Price" in my area (Metro Chicago) has shot up to $31,055!!!!!!!!!!

According to the information on that site, the "Target Price", reflects a typical, negotiated price (before taxes and other customary fees and charges) generally found in your area for the vehicle that you selected. This price is based on our research and estimates of supply and demand in your local marketplace.

    Geez!

For our area it's $31,095. What the hell is the $40 Gulf States surcharge?

I tried a couple of other packages, including the base model, and they're all coming up with a Target Price of $5k over MSRP. Sheesh!

FWIW, TMV on Edmunds shows about $250 over MSRP.

Unless I'm missing something, that's got to be a Toyota thing. The surcharge came up for the Camry and Sienna I entered but not for the Accord or Maxima.

Could it be a charge to make up for the raise in gas prices? Costs more now to transport car from port than it did in January.

These prices make the Prius an even more stupid purchase than it was before. It'll take five million miles in gas savings to pay back the difference in cost. Typical "goose that laid the golden egg" situation.

No thanks. I'll buy a car that gets good mileage, not one that costs way too much that gets a little better fuel economy.

Looks like my frequent flier miles were put to good use when I purchased my silver 9 in Powell, WY at MSRP and drove 1300 miles back to Chicago.

Yeah but the Sienna is built in Indiana, for the love of God, and that SE region surcharge is imposed on that model as well! [Broken External Image]:http://gocrvclub.org/images/smilies/confused.gif
