    I started a thread a while ago titled,http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-main-forum/65775-am-i-nuts-want-black-one.html
and the community consensus, given my slothful car-care ways, was that I was indeed losing my mind to want a black car.

    Now here's the thing...
I don't like washing cars and minimal maintenance is a plus for me. So is safety, and I have heard white and silver are the best colors safety-wise. So I have left the dark side.
I like the white better than the silver, but will it be much more of a pain-in-the-neck to keep clean?
Any other reasons I should get silver over the white (other than the 220 bucks...)

Get what you like. That'd be Blizzard Pearl in this case. Silver isn't necessarily easier to keep clean than white, and might even be harder.

In my previous life, I owned a honda in that sandy beach type color. I did not love it, I'm a fan of bright colors BUT, it was amazing in how clean it looked no matter how long I had neglected it. If I were not so attracted to the blue and red, I would get that color again just for that reason.

I agree with Octavia: if you want a color that looks good the longest with minimal cleaning, go with the "sand" colors.

I've chosen colors like this for years with my work vehicles, and it really works.

    Best wishes,

    Frank

Thanks on the sand recommendations, but I gotta have a dark gray interior and sand doesn't offer that. My pooches dirty feet will turn bisque to tsssk, in a matter of hours...
So it is now either white or silver (possibly gray but that doesn't seem much better than black)

I think octavia meant Silver as "sandy beach type" color, not the Sandy Beach color.

Winter Gray is high maintenance so don't get that if you won't consider black.

I've never owned a white car (have owned a few silver), but I would think dirt would more easily show on white than on silver.

Of the colors mentioned I've had 2 white, 2 black, and 1 silver car. The silver one always looked the cleanest with minimal care. But the black looked incredible (99 DeVille) when all shined up. I can't bring myself to get a beige car...

With that in mind, I got silver. And, it's was the model I wanted, and was en route to the dealer when I inquired. I got lucky.

White hides dust the best but will show dirt immediately. Dust is more noticeable on silver but it's better at hiding dirt.

We got black and do not regret it. My Corolla was black and dirty most of the time. Ijust didn't care what people think. Since I am selling it tonight, I had cleaned it all up nice and shiney. I think I will be sure to keep the Prius in a cleaner state.

Dondoh, In my past, I have had black vehicles and white vehicles. I like to look of black, but I will not buy either color if I can avoid it because they both show dirt and look really dirty unless they are constantly washed. On the other hand, I'm not sure Blue is much better, but I liked the Prius Blue so that's what I got. At least the Prius is not as big or hard to wash as my ex-full size SUV. --TK

Get the silver. I had a silver car before my black prius came in. I loved it b/c it hid the dirt, but I wouldnt count black out that fast...I love it on the prius, and even though it wasnt my first choice (silver), I'd choose black again given the chance to go back.

I have a silver Prius, and had a Blizzard Pearl Highlander. The silver is much much easier to keep looking nice. The hatch on the Highlander always looked dirty white, as it will on the Prius. Not nearly as noticeable with the silver.

The silver will show dirt the least.
The last two cars I owned were silver and after having deep colored cars the silver ones required many fewer washings. For the most part dirt doesn't show on the silver background.
Besides not showing dirt a silver car is easily seen under most lighting conditions and that's a major safety consideration.

i own black accord and i like it, but i picked white color for my mom and sister's cars.

less than a year old and i got like 6-7 visible scratches. i dont mind dusts since i use $1 self-wash like every 2 weeks, which is located next to freeway entrance, but scratches are far more noticable and usually happen at public parking spaces. that's why i park little further whenever i go out so less cars will park next to mine. i definitely avoid parking spot next to shopping carts at retailers like costco/tarket/ikea. those are death traps to my car.

but it looks damn cool after car wash

i have black now and will never buy black again.

it shows all the scratches and is dirty 10 minutes after the car is washed.

i had a plain white firebird convertible in the 90's. not to bad with the dirt but the road tar is a pain is the nice person!!!

i also had a 2001 Subaru ll beaner wagon with the pearl white. it hid the dirty dust better than the plain white. it was less stressful because you always knew when you cleaned it it could never get white white because of the pearl. the pearl also hid the scratches well.

i like red the best. medium tone. OK at hiding scratches. and if it's dirty for a few winter months it will always come back vibrant and feel more pleasing and fresh

Agreed. And the Barcelona Red hides the dirt surprisingly well. I went to my local dealer on a Sunday to look at what they had on the lot. There were 2 gen IIIs, a red and a blue. It had rained the night before. As I approached the cars from a distance, the blue car had obvious rain spots, the red car looked clean. I had to look closely to see that the red was equally spotty.

The Red is available with dark gray interior.

My new '10 Prius is black and I love it. Looks really great when clean. Of course, I have to keep it clean. I drive clients to lunches, etc.. frequently, so I wash my car once/week. If I knew I wouldn't be washing it frequently, I would have chosen another color, but if you keep your car frequently washed, then deciding on which color to choose solely based on how dirty it will look doesn't make much sense. Of course, if you don't wash your car very frequently, then color choice can make all the difference in the world!

I own a Blizzard Pearl 2010 and I love the color. I find you don't notice light dirt (although I do tend to keep it clean).

However, the big bonus is the lower internal temperature when it's sitting in the sun. My wife's van (dark blue) will burn you while the Prius is only warm inside.
