Oil pan cleaning

    Decided it was time to check for sludge in the pan, oil seemed like it was lacking but the texas heat will do it also but I figured why not at 300k miles, as it turned out I don't think anyone's ever opened it up still has just the rtv sealant grey one from the factory, sure glad I got to it and gave it a good cleaning its hard to tell from the pic but there was deff buildup at the bottom of the pan, got in there and started scrubbing let the pan sit in mean green and old cat litter square bucket was my parts washer pan fit perfect, went with the felpro gasket but feel like I should just done the rtv gasket maker for a cleaner finish 90min rtv and was back on thr road in no time! Gonna do my partners prius next they're at about 235k miles, had done a month long piston soak so curios to see how that one comes out
    As for my 300k I did motor medic flushes and new oil new filter flushes periodically to fight off oil consumption, I plan on switching to mobil 1 delvac, curious if anyone's used it or any diesel oil brand with success at reducing oil consumption or noticing a difference in oil appearance between servicing,

    Yeah that's pretty much par for the course You could also pour chemical in through the oil filler hole and just put enough to lay on the bottom of the pan and eat away the sludge but of course taking it off is definitely the way to go with you I'm going to do that sort of thing. Once oil consumption starts it's really difficult to rein it back in. You might a little bit. But on a generation too you just start running cheap supermarket oil until you're done with the car I mean I've got one that's using oil now I don't see it out the tailpipe and it's not on the ground but it's using it and so we're running $0.99 quarts of oil doesn't matter what kind or any of that We almost don't change the oil in that particular vehicle anymore when it's driven enough enough of it vanishes that when we replenish it pretty similar to an oil change and with the mileage that's on this vehicle it's not something that we're trying to save the engine on when it goes I may put another engine in it I may not I have four of these this is the work vehicle and right at 400k and a thousand miles the oil is halfway down the stick I just top it off with the cheap stuff and continue running service calls and local running sometimes going an hour or two away no problem.

    I think it's all done with FIPG I don't think there's a gasket available or was one there may be now and if I was to take this off and there was a gasket available I'd put the gasket back on just because.

    Unless an oil pan has copious leaking I wouldn't touch it, don't see the point. Doubly so if it's using Form-In-Place gasket.

    But anyway, attached repair manual excerpt has info on the reinstall.

    Wonder if any high mile drivers have has any luck with valvoline restore since it makes a pretty strong claim :^0
    Doing the other prius tonight its 730 and 99 degrees outside in Texas rn so sundown tonight I'll be cracking open the other, and I'll be doing thr rtv only on this one for the pan post back probably tomorrow

    Next prius done today we have only has the car since Dec, and not on the toad till Feb I think, but had a fair amount of slim sludge in the pan again this is 235k more or less got to cleaning but this tarnished engine would not get clean spend 2hrs scrubbing, blasting with barke parts cleaner, wd40, pb blaster, motor medic and strait acetone and could only get it half as clean as my prius yesterday! Think they deff ran dino in this one before and being exhausted I forgot to get a Pic -_- on the after but deff will keep a closer eye on this one more frequent oil changes and more flushes !
    Once I experiment with delvac in my prius if it get results then I'll do it to this one I can wrap out my prius because I still got my truck but if I mess up my partners then I'm in a world of nagging lol, again sorry for the no after pic it's 11 pm and still a hot 86 degrees out it only dropped out the 90s around 9pm so I'm a bit heat scrambled, drop some lines !

    Is there something wrong and going on here or is this just a housekeeping or something these cars usually go to 400K with out ever doing anything with the oil pan or the head or valves or anything generally unless they've just been beat by real doofus types which is possible but many times not so much these cars were kind of a premium when they were first put out so the kinds of people that were buying them weren't real doofus types and they were generally families and whatnot trying to take care of the car and not using it for deliveries and Uber and GrubHub they hadn't been invented yet Domino's drivers were kids so they couldn't afford them so these were generally used properly and well by reasonably educated folk. And I generally try to get them from those people when they're getting ready to send them to the tow lot or the junkyard because they're at their wit's end with batteries and CM monitor displays and what have you that tells most people it's been close to 20 years it's time.

    Just upkeep mine uses oil but not a dramatic amount the lower mileage one surprised me because it ate up 1.5 quarts kinda fast in my opinion either way both needed oil changes and both got cleaned pans
