Oil Consumption - how much are you losing?

    Hi all,

    I just wanted to get a sense of everyone's oil consumption to get a comparison for my 2014 model. I just ticked 180K miles and adding about 0.75-1 quart every 8K miles. This is when I do an oil change. No visible leaks around engine or under car. Thoughts on this amount? Curious how you all with comparable mileage are doing.

    FYI - bought the car at 150K knowing the previous owner had possibly gone way over on oil changes. Dealer records show up to 18K miles between changes a few times. I changed the oil 3 times in the first 10K miles I owned it in hopes that a good full synthetic would pull some garbage out of the engine. Let's hope the PO took it to Jiffy Lube between those long periods, but yes, I've assumed the worst and this may account for additional engine wear.

    Our 2010 Prius II with 176 k miles uses a quart every 5 k miles now.

    I just check it every Saturday and top it up as needed;).

    I’ve had our oil changed by either myself or the dealer every 10 k miles. But the key is to check often and not let it get low(y).

    Our 2012 now has 162k. on it. It uses about .5qt. for the first 5k. miles then about 1qt. for the second 5k. mi. Seems to be getting a little worse now so I'm keeping a close eye on it. I started putting 5w-30 synthetic on when I add.

    2013 Prius now at 122K miles and does not consume any oil. Have started to check it more often.:D .Still using 0W-20, @10K OCI.(y)
