We just traded in our 2005 Prius on a new 2010.

One of the things that surprised me is that they do not want to do the first oil change until 10K miles.

    Any thoughts on this?
I realize they are now using synthetic oil, but 10K for the very first oil change that covers the break in period seems like a lot?

i changed mine out at 3200 just because i believe that first oil gets dirty. the oil was not that dirty to my surprise. i will change again at 10K (so about 7000 on this oil) and send in a sample and see what they say.

If you prefer you COULD do the first at 5k, then 15k, 25k, 25k, etc. It is your money.

I wouldn't really want to wait the full 10k the first time, but hey it is what the manual says. I did 5k fwiw.
