So I'm getting the oil changed in the Frontier today, and sure enough there is a Silver Prius just in front of mine getting wiped down.. so I patiently wait to see the owner and get some feedback from them..

It turns out it is a mid 60 to early 70 year old lady that comes by to claim it.. I cautiously ask her if the car is hers and she replies that it is not hers but belongs to her daughter. I asked her, what year, how many miles, etc.. and what she feels about it overall...

She explained to me that it was an '05, and that it had been "dogged out" by her daughter and her sons really bad. She said it had about 85K miles on it, but that she LOVED IT...

She asked me what I was driving, I pointed out the Frontier, and she asked me how much MPGs I was getting.. when I replied about 12 - 14.. she said just a sweetly as she could.. "Oh well if you can afford it honey, you need to go out right now and get yourself one of these!"

She was very, very nice.. and seemed overly happy with the used vehicle. She also seemed really upset that the car had been so mistreated by her family.

    Just wanted to share....

That's what we've been saying all along. In fact, how can you afford not to get a Prius?

I've got my brothers Jeep Wrangler for a little while since he just broke his left ankle a week ago. I think I'm averaging around 12-13 mpg and I am babying this thing, too. It really makes me miss my Prius, especially since my brother says he's getting 56 mpg in it right now. This is actually about what I expected, given his location and the drive. In the mean time, I've probably got 6-8 more weeks of driving "The Monster".

Who wants to dangle a Prius in front of Coach for awhile??

Honestly, I have to say "kudos" to Coach. I assume he can afford the gas and operating expense for his Frontier, so why not enjoy it while you got it! Eventually, he'll come out of anesthesia and realize he's been pissing in his pants. Hopefully, he'll say he had a good run. :D

OMG, 12 - 14 mpg! How can anyone be happy with that?
What is a Frontier anyway? Must be a great car as there are not any left over for export.

My excuse for not taking the plunge so far is.... Frontier is still running good.. and not ready (or not enough saved up yet) take on another vehicle note. It has been a good run...

Frontier is a "midsize" Nissan Truck... I got a great deal on one in '03.. paid it off a few years ago... and have been enjoying it ever since.. it now has an oil leak, and a timing belt that needs fixin'.. but thank God so far so good...

But I've got this Prius itch.. that won't go away :p

I like to stir up my brother in law, who is a datsun fan that he bought his son a datsun so he would build a closer relationship with his mechanic. (Brother in law is a mechanic)

Glad you have enjoyed building a relationship with your mechanic, but is it time to move on now?

(Toyota never needed to change their name to build a new reputation because their products were crap, like Datsun did...

Scratch mate, scratch ... oh that feels good!

2011 Nissan Frontier Truck | Nissan USA Official Site. Haha. :)
Haha. From the stuff I've seen on TV about Nissan's US history including talking to Mr. Katayama, they apparently used the Datsun name at first in the US because they were afraid they might fail here and thus sully the Nissan name.

[ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datsun]Datsun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] gives a much more complex story and I don't know how accurate is is.

I do have to give you props, Coach, for having the ability to resist the temptation. I'm one of those that suffers from "want it, get it" mentality lol.

I hope you get the issues with the truck sorted out, as it would probably have another 10 years of life left in it, easily. Especially, since I believe I recall you saying you would give it to your son when he starts driving. Well, assuming the son drives appropriately with it!

Props to you Coach, you're the coolest truck driver I know.

Regarding the quote, I love that she called you honey.

I'm hoping to someday get to the age where I call everyone "son" and people find it endearing.

Until then, I'll just enjoy all the cool expressions older folks get to use.

Somewhere in this post there is a hidden message for you.

Haha cool story Coach. I keep imagining the old lady as the grandma in Happy Gilmore.

Sir, can I trouble you for a glass of warm milk? It helps me go to sleep.

You can trouble me for a warm glass of shut-the-hell-up!

The resisting hasn't always been this good.. when I was a bit younger.. I was the poster boy for impulse buying!!!!
    But thanks for the props...
I think the truck still has a great deal of life left in it as well, especially if I get the oil leak/timing belt taken care of.. the plan is to give it to the oldest son... but surprisingly he doesn't seem to be in a hurry to drive yet...

Thanks for the kind words Mike! OH COOL.. a hidden message in the post??? HMMMM remember.. I'm a coach... not the sharpest pen in the box :( I'll try to find it..

Nice call.. and as a matter of fact.. there was a good resemblance

I recently figured out that I've saved just over $1500 in the first 6 months with my Prius vs. the 4runner (16mpg) we traded it in on. We drive about 25k miles per year.... that's serious coin. That's about $250/month. That's more then half the Prius payment.

But bear in mind I had a payment on my truck that was about the same as I have on my Prius. If my truck had been paid off like Coach's is, then the savings of not having a payment far outweigh the extra cost of gas.

Yeah Sporin... that is my struggle... hard to justify adding the note.. or paying the premium price.. when the ole' Frontier is paid off and still runnin' fine...
