    Dashboard looks quite similar to the dashboard on my Prius v. However, it seems as if there is a "gear shift" lever in the console between the front seats. Am I seeing things right? What would be the purpose of this - I see the standard PRNDL shift knob on dashboard.

    "The Aqua uses the same 1.5-liter Toyota Hybrid System II engine found in some of the most recent Prius cars, which has returned a touch over 35 km/l or 82mpg in Japanese tests. This will be revised to between 50mpg and 60mpg for the US launch though."

    Why does it lose 30mpg between Japan and here??????

    Could be 'Imperial miles' versus 'US miles'? LOL

    Now seriously, these are completely different tests, plus the fact that EPA is manipulating the results by some kind of correction factor.
    Generally, EPA sticker is more realistic to the average driver although hypermilers will easily defeat it.

    i see that there is one model doing w little better in mpg also 1080 and 1050kilograms
    so maybe the 3 door version?

    Yep. The tests are totally different.

    It looks like the difference between the base "L" trim level (with 14" tyres) vs. the uplevel "S" and 'G" trim levels with 15" wheels.

    1.5L :( I thought this was going to have the 1.8L from the current Prius

    and ugh, why the huge shifter?

    That back end looks ... impacted, too.

    Maybe compacted? Why would we need a 1.8L on a smaller and lighter car?

    Has anyone done a power to weight ratio comparo between a Gen III and the c?

    Don't know why they would go retro on the shifter.

    It's cheaper to go with the 1.5 litre 1NZ-FXE engine because it's an older engine (so they'll continue to reap the benefits of the R&D cost) and it's been updated with the latest technology such as the electric water pump (so beltless engine like the 1.8) and there's the exhaust heat recovery system too.

    I don't think there's a new NR family engine with 1.5 litre displacement. There's 1.0 and 1.33 (same one in the iQ and Yaris in Europe) and I don't think either would work well on US roads.
