There are 3 potential tires that could come mounted on a new 2016 Prius w/ 15" wheels. Luck or unluck of the draw it seems. No rhyme or reason.

Dunlop Enasaves (I have there and love em)

    Toyo somethings...

    And

    I forget the third.

Edit: just saw you were in Australia, might be different there. Above was for USA.

mine is Toyo NanoEnergy A29, P195/65R15

Seems ok. I normally buy Michelins, since they give me 50K to 60K.
I'll research on mileage/Fuel savings then!

Likely Bridgestone Ecopia EP422 plus, but yeah again, that's in North America.

If we like our OEM tires, can the dealer order them for us?

Dealership or any tire retailer. There's nothing special about them.

I was just curious about the price. The Toyo website doesn't even list my "Nanoenergy" tires on their website.
(And couldn't find them on Tire Rack.) Toyo has a couple of all-season tires under a different name; sold to retail customers. The dealer parts dept I spoke with can order those, but not the OEM's, according to this guy.

Yeah maybe they're made in Japan? This can be a problem, say if you have an unrepairable flat, and don't want mismatched tires. What do they say, at least replace in pairs? Meh, cross bridges as you come to them. :)

Yep, OEM made in Japan. Made to Toyota's ordered specifications... A softer rubber compound, which gives the illusion to the prospective customer that the car has a nice smooth ride...:D

...And that's why most OEM tires only last 25,000 miles or so. (There's several articles about this on the internet.) Although, some people manage to get 50K out of a set of OEM's. The Bridgestone 17" OEM tires seem much better than the 15" tires found on non-touring models.

I was just at a dealer, and I saw a lot of Dunlop 15" tires on the new 2017's (Two, Two Eco, Three.)

I actually got 65,000 miles out of my OEM tires on the 2008 Prius. Bridgestones.

Our OEM's, still on the car, are Michelin Pilot hx mxm4 215/45R17 made in USA, manufactured Feb of 2009. The car has 63,000~ km's, with maybe 15,000 km's done on different snow tires. So about 48,000 km, translates to 30,000 miles. They're around 6/32" ~ 7/32" remaining tread depth, about 1/2 they're usable life, down to the wear bars. So maybe 60,000 miles life, though common sense and their age will dictate replacement sooner I sure.

None of the cars I've owned, ever went over 50,000 miles total on the ODO. My 2005 Camry came close, at 49,500 at trade-in. When I say I'm a low mileage driver, I mean it!

So, I guess my OEM Toyo's will last for my lifetime! :ROFLMAO:

I remember putting my "good" spare tyre in the rotation pattern, then had a blowout a few days later. Turned out to be 9-10 yrs old, and the tyre chap said that Bridgestone recommended tyres be thrown away at 6 yrs old.

Yeah that's likely going to trump tread depth for me. :(
