50% Hyway at 60 MPH, 50% city at 35-40 MPH

 

I'm i little scared this last 2 tanks i have bin getting low miles per tank.
32 MPG
i just filled up 10.5 gallons and only got ~342 mils out of it
i live in the grater Portland OR. during the sumer i used the AC and i am using the auto AC now
after the car defrosts in the morning. i keep it at about 69-72 degrees or so.
in the summer i was getting about 480-500 Miles per tank or about 47- 51 MPG.
has any one had any MPG this low?

Well, this kind of sucks. I've been tracking my mileage since day one, almost a year ago. Keep a spreadsheet on my PocketPC that syncs to my computer. Saw this thread, figured it's a good time to sync the data and then post what I've been getting. For some reason it didn't sync right, and I lost my data back to the end of September.

Could have been worse I suppose, but I'm now missing about 5k miles of data, which is about 20% of my total mileage....

Since I have that, I'll go ahead and add to the thread based on what I do have:

As of 9/27/06
20,027 total miles
Cumulative avg MPG = 46.49
Most recent tank MPG = 47.69

MPG has been going up for me recently, just a little bit. I think my cumulative was up to almost 47 MPG as of today when I filled up, but since I lost the spreadsheet I can't be sure......

That was most likely my last tank above 60 MPG until it warms back up. Though I am still barely above 60 MPG 250 miles into current tank. These are MFD numbers. The temps aren't really correct either, they are just an average of the high and low for the time period. Usully I only drive at night when it's cold. I need a new job, it's killing my MPG...

My mileage has decreased from 53.9 MPG to 53.1 MPG during my last two tank fills. (Almost 5K miles on the car now, MPG calculated with strict record keeping). I figure it's because the weather has turned a bit cooler up here. But I have also switched from mid-grade 89 Octane fuel to straight regular 87 Octane fuel during that time period. I have read all the threads concerning peoples opinion on Octane and how a lower grade should not affect the mileage. Just to satisfy my OWN curiousity, I am going to switch back to mid-grade and see if it starts back up.

If it increases, then I will have to decide if the more expensive gas is worth a measly 1 MPG! With my luck, a warm period will come along at the same time and I won't know if which one turned the trick. I suspect the cold weather is doing it.
