I didnt even think to check the acc. list on my Prius V, I just knew it had auto on and off head lights, right. All better equiped cars do now, dont they, especially on a car that comes with head lamp washers, really.

Had to laugh, not a problem for me ( wife is miffed)
Having fun with the radar cruise and the lane keep assist.

Next time you drive the Prius turn on the headlights manually. Then never turn them off manually.

They will come on when you turn on the car, and turn off 30 seconds* after you open one of the front doors once you have turned the car off.

*Dealer adjustable to 0 seconds or 60 seconds if your prefer.

LEDs last forever...so, keep them on! There are other minor bulbs that turn on but the main headlights and taillights are LEDs...so, yeah, they rock!

head lamp washers are rather useless. But it does look cool to fire them :)

My 99 Camry has auto headlights. My 2010 Prius doesn't. I will never figure Toyota out.

Atleast side airbags are standard (maybe I better check :D). My 99 Camry and Solara both have side airbags, but our 07 Yaris did not (optional). It is frustrating when Toyota makes safety items optional when other manufacturers make it standard (Fit, Versa). Then they make very few with option.

I like the fact the Prius does not have autoheadlights (DRL's). I like to be able to select to use or not use, approaching a security gate I don't blind guards, pulling into the garage I don't get reflection off the walls, etc...

I'm okay without auto headlamps, but I do miss having daytime running lights (DRL). Our Canadian friends have it standard on their vehicles. For me, it's more an issue of others seeing me. Oh, yeah; it's all about me... LOL!

    Happy Motoring,

OK, I'm confused my 2010 III has auto headlights and installing the OEM style fogs and turning on the parking lights operate as DRLs.

I agree. I can turn on the parking lights and have daytime visibility. When Daytime Running Lights (white light) is an option, it comes on automatically and turns off automatically when the engine turns on/off and the white light is very visible on the highway.

Unfortunately the headlight washers go off every time you use the windshield washers and the headlights are on. They should have been on a separate switch.

Fortunately they do have a separate fuse, F7 in the under hood fuse box.

Do they?!? That must be why I've burned through 2 bottles of washer fluid in only two months of ownership.

There is another thread on here that shows how a few of us managed to enable 'real' auto headlights on our 2010's... by real, I mean they turn on when it gets dark and turn off when it gets light.

This definitely isn't a project for the faint hearted as it requires removing some of the dash trim panels (and maybe even disassembling most of the dash, depending on how your car is wired)... and also replacing the headlight control stalk on the steering column if you really want a factory look... and that requires removing and replacing the steering wheel. However, if you have some time and a good sense of adventure it can definitely be done.

If you're not feeling quite that adventurous there are also several aftermarket accessories that will do the same thing... they're probably a bit easier to install, but have the downside of a $75 or $100 price tag.

Yes, it will go through washer fluid at an alarming rate when when the headlight washers operate. Just pull the fuse and keep in it the car in case you need them some day. I pulled the fuse a year and a half ago and have never missed the headlight washers.

As the second post in this thread pointed out, the 2010 Prius HAS automatic headlights, with the added option of being able to turn them off to improve gas mileage if you want to.

I can assure you all that my 2010 Prius package III with solar and nav. does not have auto on headlights (I wish it did).

No it doesn't. It has AUTO-OFF but not full automatic headlights.

Don't bother. I've seen Toyota make things standard then take them away the next generation.

e.g. our Gen 8 Corolla had illuminated ignition keyhole and soft-touch overhead assist grips (This is the Canadian LE model). They took both items out of the Gen 9 Corolla LE and now it's back for the Gen 10 Corolla.

However, the Gen 10 Corolla doesn't even have door courtesy lights . I thought it was pretty bad when they took them out of the rear doors (not the Corolla but higher end models like the Cressida and Camry) and now they've gotten to the point of cost cutting that they don't even put them in the front doors!

I was thinking about the Canadian version. When I'm ready for my next one, why don't I just go up to, say, Toronto and pick one up? What am I missing?

I only glanced at this page but paying a 2.5% duty on a car you can buy here (even if missing something like auto headlights, solar panels with lights etc jsut used as examples) doesn't make much sense.
