Wow, the GOP must be scared of Obama.

It's not like this is unusual. A LOT of our government representatives are driven in SUVs. I have no idea if it has anything to do with security or what. I don't know if they're allowed to drive their own cars or if they have any choice in the cars they are driven in. And I don't care.

I guess you all missed the TV footage of our representatives extoling the new energy bill at an alternative fuel center or whatever....then walking across the street and getting in *their* SUVs and driving off.

So Obama made a speech and then left in an SUV.

Not really sure how this shows how the GOP is afraid of Obama, since it was a local news story.


Just goes to show how hypocritical politicans can be. On both sides of the aisle.

Obama warns citizens . . .about gas guzzling.
Obama spoke on . . . global warming.

. . . consumers can make the difference by switching to higher mileage hybrids.
Obama left in a GMC Envoy after admitting to favoring SUV's himself.

You are a school teacher. What is not hypocritical about that?

Your example - representatives extoling the new energy bill at an alternative fuel center or whatever....then walking across the street and getting in *their* SUVs and driving off. - is not hypocritical if they were not telling other people not to do what they were about to do.

- If the representatives were Republicans, I bet they were extolling a NEW ALTERNATIVE FUEL to increase energy supplies.
- If they were Democrats . . . well, then maybe they were being hypocrites. :lol:

 

There's an addendum that the SUV runs E85. Does that justify the SUV?

It's a flex fuel SUV which he fuels with an alternative fuel (ethanol) as much as possible. This is not hypocritical.

 

E85 well he has sole to GM and Ford. May he rest in peace. Glad I don't have to look for another "democrat" I am disappointed. I had hoped for better. E85 is a poor bridge, worse than the Hybrid, as a bridge technology, but I guess that all the corn farmers voting for him in the Mid West really suck that s**t up. He now needs to win my vote now.

That's kind of like bragging about how environmentally correct you are in your biodiesel Hummer H1.

Over consumption is overconsumption. It's that type of ignorance that got us into the mess we are in. :angry:

 

It's hypocritical. So what? My point was they all do it. Or most of them. The only difference is they don't come out and say they prefer SUVs. They just quietly drive off in them on the sly. It's the rare politician that drives a Prius. So why does Obama bear singling out?

I notice Al Gore was also bashed and he owns a hybrid. But I guess a hybrid Lexus isn't good enough to escape attack.

I don't like Obama's politics, but in the case of climate change, isn't ethanol a better choice than gasoline from a carbon uptake / carbon release standpoint? It may not be when you consider the amount of energy used to produce the ethanol and the amount of oil-based fertilizer used to grow the corn to produce the ethanol, but I've heard it is better in that one respect. And, it is domestically based, freeing us from foreign oil (and putting us instead in the grips of foreign ethanol!)

Now if the SUV is not a E85 vehicle, and Obama is just playing politics with the issue, then he is like most of the other politicians ... making appearances to satisfy his base while living high on the hog.

Let me guess their backup story . . . “Oops, we meant it was a staff member driving Mr. Obama's vehicle, but, that staff member in fact owns his own E85 vehicle, but everyone was confused as to which vehicle was which.â€

So, let me get this straight. Give a speech encouraging people to conserve and save the planet, then hop into a staff member's gas guzzling SUV.

First you claim that Obama is hypocritical for touting Gas alternatives, but driving an SUV.

Then you find out the SUV is flex-fuel, and find some way to put him down for that.

Then you find out that he actually carpooled with someone who does not drive a
flex-fuel vehicle, and now that's the sin.

Brother. Godiva's right. If you then found out the carpool vehicle in question was
electric, you'd complain that he didn't walk. This is a stupid discussion.
