Government investigating Hummer H2 for possible safety defect

WASHINGTON (AP) — Federal regulators are investigating the Hummer H2 after receiving three reports of wheels falling off the vehicle, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday.
Involved in the investigation are Hummer H2s from the 2003 and 2004 model years. General Motors Corp. said there are approximately 59,670 of those on the road.

Four drivers reported a fracture in the steering knuckle, which allows the wheels to turn. All said they lost control, including one driver whose H2 veered into oncoming traffic and ended up in a ditch on the other side of the road. In three of the cases, a wheel fell off.

The Hummer H2, which starts at around $50,000, weighs 6,400 pounds and is one of the largest sport utility vehicles on the road.

GM said it is cooperating with the new investigation. NHTSA investigations can lead to vehicle recalls.

This remind me recent recalls for Mitubishi trucks in Japan.
As everyone know front wheel hub failed which endup wheel come off.
Also drive shaft failed and broke off from turck or bus which end up nailed vhicle behind them :cussing:
So like myself and some other Japanese are avoid drive behind any Mitubishi turck/Bus even car.

Darn, they ended the video early . . . I wanted to see the driver go into ‘roid rage and break his big toe while kicking the :cussing: out of his wimpy Hummer.

[Just speculation on my part, but you just know something like that transpired afterwards, especially when the bona fide off-road vehicles come up behind and tell him to move his POS]

    This one too. . .

The wheel fell off a Hummer H2 when the Auto Editor for the Sacramento Bee was in the newspaper’s parking lot doing a test drive!

    D’Oh!

Forget trying the Rubicon Trail, a parking lot is a hazard for a Hummer.

2 years after the accident the NTSA is investigating, not a lot of confidence inspiring action there!
