Hi there I am looking into buying a 2007 Prius from a local dealer (Bay Area California). Option #6 "Loaded" in Gray. (they said this is the most wanted color and option package)

The price I was quoted was $27,350 or $500 over invoice + Tax and Lic. (no other fees) Is this a good deal? or a great deal? Anything special I should consider?

    Thanks!

I took delivery of a 07 Touring in early Feb. On my own, the best offer I got was for Invoice price. Using my credit union I got a discount of close to $1800 below invoice. Last weekend I saw a ad from the San Jose area, they were offering 2k below invoice! I did not read the fine print, so there might be something fishy going on.

Use the net, send quote requests to several dealers, and use their bids against each other. If you feel like it, don't counterbid them all with the lowest received quote initially; pick some low number (25.5k? 26k?) first. Then proceed.

I don't know how the situation is at this point; when I bought last month I had no problem getting a dealer down to invoice, although countering the other two produced offers that were at least $600 more, so I'm not quite sure what was going on there. But the gas prices weren't over $3 then.

They will always say what you want is the most wanted. When I shopped, lower pkgs. were scarcer, lots of highest pkg. If they have them in stock, they should do 2500-3000 off msrp on that pkg. IMO, since they were doing 2500+ off msrp even on lowest pkgs. last month. Some salespeople are snooty and bullying I found, strange behavior to make sales. I avoid these types.

Edmunds price for the Package you want is $26,500+ CArsdirect price is $25,702. You should try to haggle around $500 less than the carsdirect price - that's what I did for my new Prius Package 5. Carsdirect.com quoted $24,549 and I paid $24,322 (in the Bay Area)
