There may be no gas in the GM car of the future, but there's sure a lot of hot air in the GM car of the present.

Maybe, and I mean just MAYBE, when he asks forgiveness for lieing about why they crushed their first good car in decades (ev1), only then might anyone in their right mind even bother listening to him. If GM does not make changes quick, the only GM cars that will have no gas are the ones in the junk yards being used for scrap metal.

When GM can get an electric car below $25,000. Call me silly, but I would be serious enough to investigate it more. Don't see this in the near future.

Right now, I agree, lots of BS.

I do not mock the theory. I mock the man and the corporation. Check out Darrell's story. A company builds an electric car that they will only rent, not sell. They then collect the cars at the end of the lease and destroy them. Now the company says the electric car is the future and we'll have one in a few years. How much money, time, and goodwill do you think they already pissed away? Where was the Board of Directors then?

Electric cars aren't new. DC saw electric taxis 100 years ago. Cheap gasoline and primitive technology hampered that line of development. In the end Lutz may be correct. We may all be driving electric Toyotas.

Wouldn't pickup trucks actually make great hybrid vehicles?

Stick a huge electric motor or two up front, a Prius-style 4-banger ICE, a hefty battery pack in the back and voila, an energy efficient vehicle for Bubba. Diesel locomotives run on electric, and have no shortage of torque or horsepower, and pickups aren't bothered much by a few extra pounds of batteries.

OK, GM, do a real hybrid, not some silly pseudo-hybrid pickup truck.

GM s*cks, but could be a really innovative, successful car company. Hire an executive from Toyota!

Well, we have Lutz on tape and in print telling us that 100-140 miles of electric range isn't enough for American drivers... and we have the same guy telling us that with a 40-mile electric-range VOLT, that 70% of Americans will never have to put gas in the thing.

Yeah, he's got my vote for truth-teller of the decade.

in 1998 GM showed a PHEV EV1 at the Detroit auto show. Claimed 80mpg after 20 mile pure EV range. What color did YOU buy? B)
