My PiP has GPS, a cell phone connection, and umpteen dozen computers. And it can't reset the dashboard clock for Daylight Savings? Guess I should feel fortunate that the clock doesn't flash 00:00 when the power is turned on.
I agree, it seems that with all the sensors they have, that they can't connect the dashboard clock to the display unit clock is just plain lame. And with the huge drift of the cheapo dashboard clock chip, you need to manually set it every month or so, even without DST, to keep your charging timer on track. The only thing I can think of in their defense is that not all Prius have Nav units, and the dashboard clock hardware was not designed to accept setting from such an "external" device. Still lame.
What's weird is that the Entune system is a Linux based system, which has DST support, all they would have to do is display the clock value of the Entune system.
The HU and the dash clock are self contained, they dont talk to each other. My Nav updated itself just fine. The dash clock is a non-connected dumb clock that needs to be manually set. Like most watches.
But apparently, the dash clock is hooked to the display unit in other cars, even some other Toyotas (earlier poster mentioned Highlander). The display unit does have access to things which were previously accessible only with an OBD-II device, such as how the remote door lock/unlock works and automatic headlight delay settings, so we know the display unit can talk to a lower level bus. And the clock and charge timer is clearly talking over some bus to manage the charge timing. It's just the dash clock that is dumb.
