I'll stick with Toyota hybrids with a 20 year reliable track record.

Toyota needs a longitudinal hybrid drive and CVT for trucks like the Tacoma, 4Runner and the Tundra.

This is the biggest admission of defeat by GM, ever.
After all the talk of building EVs and the big number of EV models they would have by some future date.
And the Volt...and the Bolt...and all the huge number of engineering effort that they must have put in (or were they lying about their future EV roadmap?) They are now going to build EVs that a tiny startup designed in their garage (sort of)?

This just shows how desperately behind they are compared to Tesla.
At least, I guess, they have now admitted it within the management team.
There is a BIG meeting room in Detroit somewhere.
It is where all the GM managers must be going after work.

No one uses their real names at these meetings -- Gasaholics Anonymous.

    It is actually the opposite.

If the Badger BEV actually happens, GM will validate, homologate and manufacture it with their EV engineering and expertise. Depending on what Nikola, a company that has outsourced everything they have made to date, hands over, the Badger BEV could very well end up just being a Hummer EV with a different skin.

The BEV will be using GM's Ultium batteries, that were unveiled earlier this year. If the FCEV ever comes to pass, it will be using GM's fuel cell technology. That is also true in regards to any FCEV commercial truck from Nikola. At least outside Europe, Nikola has already made a deal with somebody else for fuel cells there.

The best part is that GM isn't putting out a dime. They'll end up with 11% of Nikola for basically checking the other's work. Manufacturing Badgers is a win for just better utilizing whatever factory they choose to use, let alone having Nikola be a buyer of their EV technology.

General Motors will build Nikola Badger, supply fuel-cell technology for semis - Roadshow has more info than the Insideevs article.

Then WHAT is GM getting? A way to sell cars they make without their dealers?

What did Toyota and Honda get making some of their products with GM Product Badges affixed?

They get 11% in Nikola. That amount is currently worth $2 billion. If Nikola fails, they'll have a claim on anything of worth Nikola might have. Nikola succeeds, and they can choose to sell for a nice profit like Toyota did with Tesla.

More units produced to spread the cost of the R&D for their EV technology; battery and fuel cell. The sales of Nikola units will get the federal credit benefits.

    Might wanna stick with Tesla.

Nikola has been getting some SEC love lately.....but then again big "T" has had their little skirmishes too and they're doing OK.

nikola down 20% after loudmouth ceo trevor milton resigns.

short seller hindinburg research accused milton of building a company on lies, and stated 53 examples, which the sec is investigating.

shareholders don't usually react so dramitically before the sec finishes their investigation, but miltons departure has them nervous.

    time to buy?

(gm down $1.74, tesla up 31 cents in a uge down market today)

    From Business Insider.
"Milton's replacement, General Motors veteran Stephen Girsky, is "probably better suited to the next — execution — phase of the company's development," JPMorgan analysts said of the move. Still, the bank warned that Milton's further distancing "could could weigh on some of the partner and customer relationships he has forged, and employee morale is probably fragile right now, just as the workload is intensifying and competitive threat looms."
Despite the surprise move, analysts largely remain optimistic on Nikola's future prospects as a hydrogen-infrastructure and services firm, as opposed to merely selling its electric semi and passenger trucks. They've largely shrugged off the company's admission that several of Hindenburg Research's accusations were true, siding with the company that many were taken out of context or are now otherwise irrelevant."
