Newer 12 volt won't keep a charge after fuel warning/low gas reset

    We own 3 Prius's. The 2007 Gen 2's Original 12 volt was replaced 8 months prior with a new one, no problems.
    Our son let the gas get low in and he gassed up the car, reset the low gas warnings by removing his 12volt and reconnecting and everything seemed fine. Two weeks later he needed to jump his car after a 7 hour park, didn't leave anything on. Car was fine for another 3 weeks, except once or twice it would act like it was dead, but he'd try again and it would work. This week he DID leave something on, re-jumped his car, and now he has to jump car every time he gets in. Before we go and get another new battery, which is what I think needs to happen, does this sound like an issue anyone else has had?

    OBD and Dr. Prius say good battery life and good 12 volt charge when working.

    No but what is the 12 volt say when nothing's been left on and the car won't start Do you have the CM monitor or the dash lights going off problem also You can always see your speedometer zero and your gas gauge It never vanishes for a time or you reset the battery and it comes back on and on and on? Kind of important your battery just sitting in the car should be showing 12 volts pretty much any time of the year A 12 volt battery supposed to have 12 volts in it not 11.7 or 9.5 or 10.8 12 volts is 12 volts. So you need to have 12 volts with the proper amp hour energy behind it You can have 12 volts and then as soon as you turn the lights on battery goes blank because it has nothing behind it It has 12 volts but nothing but 12 basic volts with no energy behind it it'll put the light on for a second or light up the dash for a second and then go dead dim or whatever You read the voltage back at the battery and it's well below 12 volts.

    Check the 12 V battery terminal connections are tight. You can't just twist it off and then shove it back on. You need to use a box wrench or a socket to ensure it is on there tight.

    The 12V battery should be properly charged, then tested. You need a decent "smart charger" that specifically can handle AGM batteries. Hook it up and plug it in - can take 12 hours or more to fully charge. Most auto parts stores will test the 12V battery for you.

    Thanks, all. It needed a proper charge. It seems to be working now.
