    Hey all
I just bought a 2005 w/ 100000 miles on it. within 2 weeks the starter battery needed replacing $320 from my local dealer. yikes!!
Now I believe (from the forum) that I did damage to the fuel tank system by over filling it. I didn't know the "don't ##** overfill these gastanks or else" mantra. Now everytime I try to fill it, it bubbles back up and overflows when anywhere near full. The check engine light is on
DID I CAUSE GREAT DAMAGE? I'm afraid to go back to the dealer after the last repair a few weeks ago. Advice please
What other "Don't ever do this" advice do you guys have for me?
    Thanks

welcome! sorry for your troubles. how many times have you filled it since the overfill? if it's running all right you probably didn't do any damage. does it bubble out before the gas pump shuts off?

Without a location, how can we advise anyone BUT the dealer? Give us a hint! ( The 12 volt battery lists for $136, so I understand the reluctance to go back to that dealer)

    Hi
No it doesn't bubble over until the filling is over. What are the bad damage signs I should look for?

If only the location field were mandatory...

OP, w/o the codes, we're flying totally blind and thus don't know what's causing the check engine light.

....I had the fuel bubble over once and I blamed it on faulty pump cutoff.
Also hot weather allows more flex in the bladder tank.
Normally takes 8.5 to 9 gallons in summer to fill...how about stick with 6-7 gals until the problem subsides.
Try different station. Not sure what the manual says about check engine light, but my VW says give it a chance to reset itself, and it did on the VW.

    Thanks
The check engine light has gone off and I will fill slowly and vent ahead of paying when I get gas. Hopefully all is well

And don't try to "top it off".
