We purchased a 14 Prius PHV a couple of weeks ago. Loving it so far! Two question. What strategies are folks using to maximize mileage without "hypermiling" and the what does Entune bring to the party?
To maximize your EV range, I would suggest using the "Finish" timer to charge the car. Set the Finish time, to be an hour before you start driving. I've noticed an increase of 2 to 3 miles in the EV range, with this method.
Congrats and welcome to PriusChat! Here's the official website for you to browse on Entune Toyota - Entune In short, Entune is a suite of Apps that allow you to access features such as movietickets.com, Bing (very useful) and Pandora (among other things) right from your car's built-in screen. All you have to do is to register with Entune and download the Entune App to your phone to start using the Apps. For example, you can ask Bing to search for "coffee shops" and it will bring up a search result akin to the other you'd see on your computer or tablet. You can then choose a result and send it to the navigation system and navigate to it, which helps keep your navigation Points of Interest fresh and up-to-date without having to update the whole disc (unless your area is building new roads).
welcome to the pip club! plug in whenever and wherever possible. drive like an ol' lady. (not from pasadena) entune is close to useless. all the best!
I also got my '14 PiP this past weekend and looking to optimize mileage during my commute. I have a 13.8 mile commute which is mostly highway. I've been trying to use the EV on the local roads mostly, and ECO Mode which cruising arounf 60mph. This way I use up about half the EV battery each way. So the last 2 days my commute has been showing 70-82 mpg, depending on A/C use as well.
Welcome...as far as non-extreme MPG improvements...you have PiP so you are in pretty good shape already. High speeds over about 65 MPH will start to hurt MPG on any car. The gasoline engine, when it kicks in, always takes the system about 5-minutes to warm up and during this period it is lower MPG, so to the extent you can minimize that happening, that helps. So with the PiP you can charge up to make the short trips to the grovery store, and never have to witness this ICE warm-up penalty. There are some higher MPG tires but I would not worry about that until you need new tires.
Welcome to PRIUSchat!! There are many good threads that can help you. Try the search in the upper right corner; or do a google search.
