Hi! Thought I should come out of this lurker cave of mine and introduce my new, one month old 2006 Barcelona Red, package 8. Was close to buying a VW TDI when I decided to call around to see if there were any cancelled Prius orders and totally lucked out. The buying experience was a nightmare no thanks to the sleazy dealership but it was still all well worth it as I got mine under MSRP! Planning on adding a roof rack next week. Special thanks to darelldd for the helpful roof rack post!
Welcome to PC, yorks-lurker! A belated w00t! That's a gorgeous pic! Are you Wild and Crazy Barcelona Prius Guy material?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ghostofjk @ May 20 2006, 04:15 PM) </div> Thanks! What's Wild and Crazy Barcelona Prius? Is that some special club? If so I'll join so long as there's a secret handshake. Where between SF and Sac are you? I used to live in the Bay Area, went to school at UCD. I miss it there in CA! <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(CinciPrius @ May 20 2006, 05:31 PM) </div> Thanks! The picture was taken right outside a cabin we rented in the Hocking Hills.
Great Picture!!! Just what were your deciding factors with the Prius/TDI debate.....Did you test drive them both?
Welcome to the Wild And Crazy Barcelona Red Club! Im Up in Findlay/Bowling Green, which sleazy delarship did you go through??? Oh and heres by Barcelona Baby: At Cooper's Rock State Forest outside of Morgantown West Virginia [attachmentid=3538] At Carter Park in Bowling Green, Ohio [attachmentid=3539]
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(B Rad @ May 20 2006, 06:52 PM) </div> Thanks! Yes, I test drove both vehicles. I was extremely impressed with the attention to detail and with the available options of the TDI, like the climate controlled glovebox and center console, the available powered seats and moonroof, etc. Plus a fully-loaded TDI was still around $3,000 less than a fully-loaded prius. I ended up choosing the Prius for two main reasons: 1) VW's questionable reliability and 2) the Prius is more environmentally friendly. Of course, the "cool factor" of the Prius didn't hurt, either!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(yorks @ May 20 2006, 11:38 PM) </div> Is it after including $3,150 tax credit back with Prius? Dennis
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(bgdrewsif @ May 20 2006, 07:34 PM) </div> Hi! Glad to see another Prius in Ohio--there aren't too many of us! I bought mine from Toyota Direct in Columbus. It was a 4 1/2 hour ordeal dealing with them. They used every tactic on me but surprisingly didn't leverage the fact that they were the only dealership in the area with a Prius available. <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(usbseawolf2000 @ May 20 2006, 11:51 PM) </div> Good question. The anwer is no, I didn't factor that in because I didn't want to count on that just in case I didn't qualify for whatever reason (since I heard the exact guidelines for that hasn't been published by the IRS).
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(yorks @ May 20 2006, 02:39 PM) </div> We're a tiny, secret society of Barcelona Red owners, limited to every male BR owner who hears about it. Yes, there's a secret shake, and a password for gaining admission to the Vault. B)
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(ghostofjk @ May 21 2006, 03:04 AM) </div> Ooh. A secret handshake. A password. And a Vault with a capital V. Count me in!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(clintd555 @ May 23 2006, 11:15 AM) </div> I to own a 2000 Jetta and it is the best car I have owned in 46 years of driving. I went ot a Dealer last week with the intention of test driving a new 06 Jetta TDI but just can't get past the ugly new design so I went home without the test drive. I now have reservations to rent a Prius in a couple of weeks. If I am going to drive a not so pretty car It may as well help save the Planet !!!!!!!
B Rad, is your '00 Jetta a member of the "frequent visits to the service department" club? Mine goes in about once every 6-12 months. It could be worse, but I've been spoiled by my previous car which rarely had any problems. And yes it is an EXCELLENT car outside the service cost issue! The new design has to grow on you. Give it time. I thought it was just as ugly as the Corolla at first, but now I think it has some class to it. I've grown to like the new look a lot actually.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(clintd555 @ May 23 2006, 12:23 PM) </div> There were 2 problems the 1st year, since then nothing. And yes the new Jetta does look better with time, but an ugly women can look better to you after a sucessful test drive, even when everyone else thinks she is still UGLY
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(clintd555 @ May 23 2006, 12:15 PM) </div> Oh YEAH.... I was driving a 2002 VW Beetlebefore I got my 2006 Prius...I cannot even begin to describe the service isssues I had with that car... it never ended... I would NEVER drive a VW again (but I did like my beetle nonetheless...)
