I am new to this forum and Prius is my dream car. Many time I went to Toyota dealership and everytime I see Prius I fall in love with it again and again. Yesterday when I visited the dealership to see what are they offering for Black Friday, I came across an amazing deal.
Originally I was/am looking for a new 2010 or 2011 Prius II or III max (I do not have a budget to buy IV or V) but yesterday the sales guy showed me loaded Prius V - Advt. Technology Package, Floor Mats, VIP RS3200 Plus Security System, Wheel Locks, Appearance Package (Rear bumper Applique and illuminated door still) tinted glass and Emergency Assistance Kit....all for $26500 ....catch is - it is driven 15K by Toyota Executive. So if I want to go for it then technically I will be the first owner (as it is not registered yet) ... it seems a very good deal and I can think for stretching the budget because I love all the kool things and gadgets higher model of Prius offers.....It is Blue Metallic Ribbon color and not much visible scratches. Few chip off color on front.

Pros - as a new car, I can still avail the toyota offers - 0% finance for 60 months or $1000 rebate. Also it will be eligible for 2 years free maintainance plan.
Cons - It is an used car and driven for 15K miles. I may not get free subscription for XM radio, XM Navtaq and SOS services

Long story short... I really liked this offer and I would like to know you guys experts comments and if I should go for it or not...

Boy that is a tough one. If it were me, honestly I would probably still lean towards the II because it would only be me to blame for bad maintenance, abuse, etc. Never know what this other car has been through. I have been burn too many times on used cars.

"Toyota Executive" probably means this was a loaner car for the service department or the owners wife used it for a year. There are not any "Toyota Executives" in Plano. I would use use Kelly Bluebook online to price it as a used car and pay no more than $300 above that price. Don't pay anything for the deal add-ons. Some of those extras are useless. They just can't steal a Prius because of the keyless locks. Good Luck and don't think back after you have made your decision.

Get the new one. The bells and whistles cannot make up for an additional year of utility (15K miles), full knowledge of the car's history, and continued peace of mind.

I'd go for it if the dealership can PROVE proper maintenance was performed on schedule. Do a Carfax on the VIN to be sure there isn't something they are hiding. Maybe ask for an extension of the warranty. As xpcman says - some of the "extras" are useless. Make sure there are no hidden damages up front or along the doors. Are side moldings included?

One advantage to 15k miles is the car is "broken in" so you should get great mileage right away. Go thru it with a fine tooth comb to be sure everything works properly - including interior wear and tear.

At any rate, welcome to PC!

x2. If it has been maintained well, then go for it. Prius is not a Mustang or Corvette that you're really afraid of some punk joyriding it (without proper break-in). So, unless the "Exec" is an idiot, i think that it is a safe buy if properly maintained. I think that the V has so much more than the II that it makes such a transaction worth it. New, that V probably costs at least $35,000. I would haggle some more to get a lower price.

The ATP especially is the dealmaker in my opinion, and fits in your budget. Make sure carfax and maintenance records are clean, no apparent abuse/damage etc.

I wouldn't let XM and SOS get in the way of it. They're peanuts compared to what you're saving (I think XM is $99 or $77 or sth like that if you can grab the special deal and SOS is $138/yr.. personally I wouldn't pay for it but compared to the savings...).

If it's newly registered, how does the warranty come about? It starts at the in-service date (which normally is the date your car gets PDI'd... which is usually the date before you pick it up).

I'd suggest that you get a copy of all the maintenance record. 26500 for a fully loaded V with 15K miles is a great deal. Also look in the door jam for date of manufacture. Also check if there's Toyota Safety Connect. I've heard that the first batch didn't come with it. As for free subscription you should still be able to get it since it has never been registered. If the free trial is up, then make Toyota throw in a year of subscription. Also check if there are any flaws to the exterior and interior. Check the driver's seat leather. Mine was creased up bad after 2k of driving and I had the car since 2 miles on ODO. They are more willing to deal with demo cars than brand new ones off the boat. Good luck, I hope you'll get it.

That's a good point, I need to check for the date when warranty starts. But for the free 2 years maintenance, he mentioned that it will end when it will complete 2 years from the day one when someone started driving. Thanks for the reply..

Yes, I will ask for the maintenance records... Toyota Safety connect is there... I will also try to get free subscription...as i mentioned color chip offs are there but not that noticeable. You have a valid point for driver seat Leather .. I am trying to collect all such points/comments from you experts so that I can finalize the deal on Friday...Thanks again!

I would buy the V and that is one hell of a price.I just paid 33k for mine and 15k miles on a Toyota is nothing. I do believe they would have maintained the car properly. I mean it was used by the dealer and they have all of the resources to maintain their vehicles it just makes no since that they would not take care of this car.

Love the ATP, and I have never used the park assist. If you drive a lot the ATP is sooo worth it.
Good price, 15k is nothing on these cars, do run the carfax tho to keep em honest.
To me the DRCC and PCS sold me on the V with the ATP. I drive about 1K per week, so 15k is pretty meaningless.
