Recently picked up a Certified '24 Prime XSE Premium with 3,000mi on the ODO. Swapped out the wheels for the winter combo from my traded Tesla Model 3, which are 235/45R18's mounted on Sport Edition (Tire Rack's store brand) 18x8 alloy wheels. The weight loss per corner was 4#. Initial EV range observations have been better than expected with the increase in drag and width of the tires. Drove yesterday 44miles in EV before gas engine kicking in. This was in 50F weather with a 25/75 mix of city/highway driving at 65mph. I'm impressed so far!
Here's what it looks like with that size combo. There are zero issues with rubbing, FWIW. I think after the winter, I think I'll mount 225/50R18 all season's on the same wheels.
Looks good! It’s nice to know that 235’s can fit without rubbing and they are lighter than the stock 19”.
Correct. I had bought from Tire Rack and asked a rep if there would be any issues beforehand. They said they do a scan of the entire wheel arch and can tell without any issues if there'll be any interference with any components. Yes, the stock 195/50R19's weighed 47# while the not particularly super light alloys with much wider tires were 44#. I was considering purchasing something even lighter but I have these and they've proven to be tough enough for the driving I need to do so I think they'll be what I go to. I understand 225's can be mounted on 18x8 rims without any issues also, and that would allow me to get back to the exact diameter tire as stock, just lighter and wider. Anybody have experience with All-Season tires that also have 3PMSF designation? I've always had two sets for each car that needed to be driven in the winter, but that may be overkill if these new tires are decent in the snow.
