Cool! And that sounds like a pretty sweet deal. There's something about these cars...

    I absolutely love my little C-biscuit. :D

Looks like a new C owners thread!
I walked into a Toyota dealer July 30 and drove home with a used one a few hours later.
    2015 C with about 40 000 miles (65 000 kms).

Now I'm playing the long game to get the dealer to cut me a second key.

I'm not a new owner, but I've had my '14 c for four years now and my enthusiasm for it hasn't diminished one bit! Congratulations and welcome to the family!

    (Update from previous post)
    Yay!! Key for free!!

I had to play the long game for this. I went back to the dealer just a few days after I got the car. Just nicely asked for a second key (car was a lease return). Salesman I spoke with said he'd look for it blah blah, they have a box with hundreds of keys blah blah, I'll personally drive it to your place. Never saw him at my place.

Went back to the dealer a week later and went to the sales manager. He delegated the job back to the original salesman, who said they would set something up and call me later that day. I got no call.

Went back the next day and started at the receptionist desk, nicely explained my situation and asked for someone who could make things happen! They referred me back to same sales manager and salesman. This time they talked to the floor manager(?) and got a work order for a key to be made.

Three days later I got a call from the Parts Dept asking me to come in to get the key programmed. It's not a Smart Key but still better than having just one single key. Saved me $200-300 I think.

Seriously? Wow. I went through the very same thing with the Toyota dealership. They *had* the key and yet were hesitant to give it to me because I hadn't paid for "a certified vehicle." Never in my 59 years have I been so frustrated with a dealership.

The car was 18 months old with 22,000 miles and they wanted me to pay several hundred dollars to get it certified?

It dragged on and on and finally, I got the key. I harassed and harangued them and in the end, I prevailed but I'll never do business with them again.

It's basically extortion. There are very few ways to get a key programmed with the transponders they have in them and the dealers know that.

I just wish I could get a transponder coded so I can make a flip key without having to physically cut out the chip and destroy a key. Cause I do love having that key dig into my thigh when I sit down. o_O

    Hey Issy,

So this car DOES have a transponder in the key? I don't have the smart key; I have the mechanical key/fob thing in one piece.

    Does THAT has a transponder?

I have the same type of key Red. Yes, they do have a small chip in the key right at the base where the metal key connects to the black housing. I've "converted" one before long ago when I owned a Civic. It took a lot of engineering to make it work. haha.

You can buy a flip key on ebay, get the key cut but you'll still need to make sure the buttons match to the flip key housing and then still have to somehow take that little transponder out and glue it into the flip key housing. Problem is they glue it into the key so it you aren't careful taking it out you'll have to order another key from the stealership.
