Just finished my install with the Metra 95-8226B surround kit. I went with Metra to check it out (more on a whim)...

The kit comes with a few pieces, and looks like it may work for both a standard 1800mm x 100mm 2 DIN head unit, and would work for 200mm x 100mm Head units (for Europe, and for some Chinese brands).

Simple to install, I like the looks where the '20 mm' fill is (less flat plastic).

The kit is not textured like the Prius dash, and comes flat black (like the Scosche).

From a fit standpoint, it is all plastic - and has some give in it - which may help to minimize vibration (???). Once installed, the radio is very secure.

Cost was very reasonable ~ $22 delivered (it came in one day).

    A pic...

Looks great. I'm guessing you're using the Toyota bezel part #55405-47080 and the side mounts from the Metra kit?

My wonderful Toyota stock bezel from Europe (UK) went away with my car.

This is the Metra equivalent of the Scosche...

No, you can see the flat surface, the OEM part is textured.

Congratulation for your new car and install. IMHO, the chinese HU design with buttons and volume knob was nicer.

How long did it take you to do the install and if I bought the same set of stuff you bought online, like the stereo, cables, housing kit, can best buy installers, or ultimate electronics do this exact mod you have in my car? - Prius 2010 II

I do like the OEM look of the Chinese things - but functionally, this is so much better. Also from a sound standpoint...

Any installer could do this - it's very basic. I'll write up my observations later.

Some important points: While the GPS antenna worked fine on top of the HU, the XM got spotty coverage. Last night, I replaced the door speakers with Infinity reference components (6.5 and 1" tweeter). Amazing sound...

    Rolff,

Did you get another Prius?? I had remember you install a pretty nice head unit from China that worked with back sensors??

Anyhow, how do you like the metra kit. I am thinking about changing my Toyota Stock bezel to a scosche or metra soon since it is a pain to pull the head unit in and out with the UK bezel.

I think the UK bezel looks by far the best. They are all the same in swapping HUs. In fact, I now hand torque the (4) 10mm bolts (with an extension) - it's so easy, and why torque it tight ???

I think the Metra may look better - but that's a very subjective thing... Metra has a 200 x 100 opening - and the opening has a beveled look - so there's less 'dead space.

Looks like Metra and Scoshce have similar dash look - so it is not exact.

I do notice mine does not line up perfectly around the outside - haven't really played with it yet...

Not meaning to be a complete jerk (though really being one) - but please post your findings for a Google search (go to Google - enter the following - Metra 95-8226B - from the previous post you quoted). Please then post what you found here ;)

Give a man a fish, he can eat for a day...
Teach a man to fish, he can eat for a lifetime...

Now I just want to eat for one day.. J/K. I think I will go with the scosche just to see the difference. They don't look like each other from what I see in the pictures at each respective websites. I usually go with the scosche kits from experience. Your install looks nice.

Another thing I like to turn people onto that want to keep the 6x9 size in the front door. I found the Eclipse SC6900 a very good component set that retail for $299 but since Eclipse is being close down you can find them for like $99 or less on ebay at times. I got a set cause I prefer silk tweeters over metal.. For the rear doors I am using the same Eclipse speakers but a 6.5" SC6500 also a component set.

Just a FYI. Long time since I look in this part of the forums.

I asked my Toyota dealer to order the European faceplate kit. It arrived today (from Europe). Cost was about $68.

    Hrmmmmmmmm (Scooby Doo sound)...

That's a good price if you got the UK surround. But you also need the 5mm filler on each side....

Nice. I paid some $20 more after shipping from the UK. Should of done that instead. Note for anyone using the OEM face kit from UK, the mount for the headunit will have to modified to fit aftermark units. The angle of the factory radio does not work with the standard double DIN config. I want to change my out for that exact reason.

I am waiting for the FLYAUDIO headunit to get back in stock this week to buy one.... So, I just ran across your post and was wondering WHY you say that the functionality and the sound is better than a Chinese headunit like the FLYAUDIO.... Thanks, Barry
